Did you uninstall all java installations before "updating"?
Also, are your video drivers up to date?
It sounds like you have either a memory leak from java or just don't have the computing power to handle and limit down java to a certain amount of ram - so it spends most of your performance just updating the game and less allowing you to play.
@Echo -------------------[ More RAM Minecraft Launcher ]-------------------
@timeout 1
@Echo Now starting minecraft with more RAM.
@javaw -Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -jar "%userprofile%\Desktop\minecraft.exe"
@timeout 1
Open up notepad and put that in there. This is assuming you have minecraft.exe on the desktop btw!
Save the document as "MINECRAFT.bat"
And close Notepad, Then double click the bat file - this should limit down the ram use. If you have a repeated error as above let me know.
My minecraft will run smooth as can be for about 5 mins, then it starts lagging up and eventually stopping altogether.It seems like my Java is taking all my memory starting at 500k and reaching 1.3m before lagging the entire game solid.Is there any fix to this ?
I've got the same problem. My minecraft works fine for about a minute but then the fps is reduced to less than 1. I've got a good brand-new laptop and I've tried almost everything there is to try and fix it but so far nothing has worked. Let me know if you find a solution maybe it will work for me too. I'll do the same for you if I find a solution to the problem.
I have had the same problem. it showed up for me after an update, I have uninstalled the windows update but it still doesnt work. Right now I can still play by waiting. Usually the slow fps stops after 30 seconds. Also try to toggle OpenGL on and off, sometimes it works for me as well.

Retired StaffLets see what happens when you do this in the batch file.
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -Xincgc -Xmx400mb -Xms400mb -jar Minecraft.exe

Retired Staff1. open command prompt and type in java -version
What does it say?
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Java
What folders are located there?
2.jre6,jre7
EDIT: I have attached my java error log aswell
