I'm not sure if it's the 1.3.1/1.3.2 update debacle that's causing my issues here but I've been having some very odd performance issues.
Here are my specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition @ 3.2ghz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660ti
8gb DDR3 @ 1333mhz
I'm also quite positive that I have the latest 64-bit JRE installed. Despite all of this, I was only managing to get a very choppy and jittery 70ish FPS on minecraft. For my specs, you might understand how this is completely unacceptable.
The only way I was able to get a much smoother 110 FPS was to use optifine AND pull the javaw into the nvidia control panel and create a custom profile for it.
What gives?
Edit: Not to mention there's a new issue, each time I break a block, the game stutters and then continues. This is incredibly annoying.
... you're getting 70-110 FPS and you're complaining? ... I... I don't even...
As for the stuttering, it's a bug. Sometimes, when you break a block, the game still thinks the block is there so if you go to where the block was, you'll get "stuck" in it. Relogging usually fixes that.
No, it's not like that. What I'm saying is that when a block is broken, the game instantly "pauses" for perhaps... a hundred milliseconds and then continues.
And again, I SHOULD be getting 200+ fps without having to use any modifications here. This is ridiculous. In fact, according to the hardware performance wiki, someone with a very similar build (but with a 550ti 1gb instead) was getting 200-230!

70 FPS is more than enough to play any game because your eyes can't really tell the difference between 60 and 1000 FPS. People usually constitute Minecraft's graphics to low system requirements, but Minecraft is actually quite a hog. It has to render every single block, load and unload chunks every time you move, update random blocks, and some more stuff I don't know about. Be happy you're getting 70+ FPS.
As for the block breaking thing, I don't know. I never get that.
60 FPS is more than enough to play any game because your eyes can't really tell the difference between 30 and 31 FPS. First of all, that's not even CLOSE to being right. 30fps is like a slideshow.
And secondarily I have a 120hz monitor, and the different between that and 60hz is like night and day.
I get similar FPS on a 670, so its not weird.
Minecraft has become a lot more demanding then it used to be.
Do you have any thoughts on the choppiness issue, though? Without optifine it may say it's getting 80-100fps, but in reality it may as well be 15fps because it's damn near unplayable.

Im not sure.
What kind of harddrive do you have? also do you have any anti-virus or something similar in the background that could be stealing resources ?

Standard 500gb HDD @ 7200rpm
I mean, was the jump from 1.3.1 to 1.3.2 so great that a dude with a much shittier build managed to get 100 more FPS than me?
Also having another issue here:
Since you're also a Nvidia bro, you might have some thoughts on this issue, which is probably gfx card related.
Okay, so my "fix" for the lighting bug didn't work, but saving and reopening the world properly calculates light cast upon objects.
Also, I've figured out the solution for the "block-break jitter", which was Optifine's "multi-core" chunk rendering, which, while it should work appropriately it does not. Switching to "smooth" instead, fixed the issue.

I edited my post before you posted that.

It's called the lighting bug. It's been around since forever. Where have you been? It's not GPU related.
What do I do to fix it then, inspector Derek?
I fixed the issue, had to enable transparency AA for javaw in Nvidia control panel.
Either way, I'm slowly tweaking things as good as I possibly can. I might release my Nvidia profile settings once I get it all figured out.
