The Mojang server for multiplayer logins is down, and will be up soon hopefully. Maybe they're making some changes to it? FAster loading hopefully. Downloading terrain not taking a full ten seconds, but rather half a second.

As for the people on the server those are the ones who can type in localhost because they live in the house/apartment the server is run from. They don't need to go through Mojang servers because they aren't playing from long distance, such as across the street or where you live.

i have the same exact problem its mojang right now i think that they might be having trouble with someone hacking them

Weird. My minecraft client freezes whenever I try to connect to a server. Anyone else having this problem?

If you are the host of the server, the fix is rather simple. Simply use the latest snapshot server, it fixes the issue completely. Those with 1.4.4 can still connect to 1.4.5 servers, so it works perfectly. For those that dont own the server, maybe try using the 1.4.5 client, as that can connect to 1.4.4, but I don't know if that fixes the issue.
