Hey guys, so I don't usually play java games so I never had the need to install it. That is of course until I discovered minecraft (I started on the 360), but I saw how much more freedom and different things you could do on the pc compared to the 360 and I wanted to play it on my laptop. I have a u30jc-a1 laptop. I bought it back in 2008. It runs all my games (CS:S) with flying colors and they are way more complex and heavier GPU applications. This laptop has nvidia Optimus, so I have two GPUs. I have a crappy Intel integrated card, and then a 310M cuda - 512mb card. I have a 2.27 GHZ core i3 cpu (apparently four cores? I think it has two physical cores and 2 virtual cores, but I haven't been keeping up with computers since freshman year of high school which was like 6 years ago haha). I also have 4GB of ddr3 ram. Anyways, my computer is more than powerful enough to run this game. When I installed the game, it would hang on the loading screen, yet say it was done loading. I fixed this problem by downloading minecraft.jar and the LWJGL-2.8.4-winRepack files and put them in the .minecraft folder. I played the game with EXTREMELY LOW FPS (below 10 fps constant). I then downloaded new graphics drivers. And also switched javaw.exe to use my dedicated GPU and now I get the black screen. Even when I switched javaw.exe back to integrated I still get the black screen. Every other game still works. I even made a RuneScape account to see how Java was functioning and it runs fine. Now, my thought was that it could be the GPU, but every other game runs fine, and when I delete everything in the .minecraft folder, I still get the same issues I had when I first started playing the game, it hangs at the loading screen at about 90% completion but says its done updating. The .minecraft folder remains completely empty, so java isn't retrieving ANYTHING. I uninstalled my antivirus, turned windows security off, anything network related is out of the question then. I don't know what to do guys. I'm getting so frustrated. Even when I maually put the minecraft.jar and LWJGL-2.8.4-winRepack files in the .minecraft folder, it gets past the updating but just hangs at a black screen... Please help :c
Here are my specs again:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (I have tried both Java 64 and 32, and 64 doesn't work at all)
intel core i3 2.27 GHZ
4GB DDR3 Ram
Geforce 310M CUDA 512mb GPU
weird thing just happened. I went to my desktop (old gaming rig that my laptop replaced), and it also hung at the loading screen like my laptop did... I don't know what is going on and why it does this. Both computers I just uninstalled the antivirus. But, I did what you just suggested, and opened it up in a browser on my desktop, TAAAA DAAAA, it worked and downloaded the files which enabled me to use the desktop exe. But, on my desktop the fps is super low too... and it shouldn't be... but that is another issue to figure out for another day. So forget the desktop, back to my laptop. I tried running it in a firefox, and it didn't even show up. So I tried it in chrome and it worked and actually downloaded the files :o. So, thats a good sign. Then I got to the menu and the graphics where all crazy and then my gpu crashed and gave me a open gl error... Why is it that all old EASY TO RUN games always are the hardest to run with good computers... I'm trying to reinstall the drivers, but I doubt that will fix anything...
Did you install java 32-bit or 64-bit? and what version of java?
I installed both, java 32 and 64, if you read my post. I have tried them separately, and together, the 64 bit does not work at all. But then again, what works that is 64 bit.... and it is the newest version because I never had java on my computer to start with until last night.
what antivirus, if it was Nortan, uninstalling it can mess up some things. After, try running a virus scan, might be a corrupt file in the java library. Worst case scenario, corrupt hard disk or something.
OH TITS!!!!! Okay everyone on this forum can take a turn and slap me in the face for being retarded. So I reinstalled windows like 2 weeks ago... I know I installed all the drivers... and I THOUGHT I installed all the updates... but what would you know, there was one update that I thought windows was just trying to pecker me about that was useless, then I finally got fed up with it always reminding me I still had one more update so I opened it now, and its freaking the service pack 1.... DA F, so I dled it and installed it and boom, minecraft works like magic. Everything is up all the way, and constant 30fps, which is pretty good considering its rendering from afar and its a laptop. The drivers must have been built off of the new service pack, and the open gl was having conflicts with the old outdated files in windows. Totally feel like an idiot. It's always the things you don't think about that are the problem xD Thanks for your help everybody. Also, just to make sure, my game renderer is at about 85%, my unspecified is at 8%, tick is at about 6%. and prerendererrors and sound are under .4% and updatelights are at 0. These are all good correct? If not, what do I want? Thanks... I still think minecraft should make a unjava based game, because I always run into problems with java... so stupid.
It is easier to code GUIs in java, and modding would be different, and possibly harder. Most things also require java no matter what, so its always good to have it. Even some microwaves use java.
Why the F would you spend money to put java into a microwave... Unless it could play minecraft
Think about it, you waiting for your instant dinner to cook and you build a freaking castle while your waiting. So awesome

I'm hopping your joking, but just in case the programming is in java. I also think its in most cars, some phones. But cooking some java with java, never thought of that. JAVACEPTION!

I'm being sarcastic. I know that java is in everything. But its annoying because JAVA GAMES never have worked right for me. SO, that brings me to this, I have a new problem. I can play for about 10 mins, then the graphics freeze up, and start skipping like nuts, jumping to 0 fps, staying there for 10 seconds then it jumps to like 3 fps then back to 0 fps making the game unplayable and you could define it as the game has frozen. So it stays like that for like 4 mins then I get a screen saying I used up all my memory, yet, at the top left it says I only ever got up to 23% of my memory usage... So WTF, I tried to allocate more memory to the client, but when I type in javaw -Xmx1536m -Xms1024 -jar "C:\Users\(my username)\Desktop\minecraft.exe" into the cmd prompt, I get this in the cmd prompt..." 'javaw' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."... nothing happens besides me hitting my face on my desk
First, test this in a true vanilla MC in the latest version. After, get Optifine. Also, whats your PC's specs.
I posted already my specs and everything in my very first post but I will repost.
It is a asus u30jc laptop, it has:
-2.27ghz core i3 processor
-geforce 310m cuda 512mb GPU (this laptop features Nvidia Optimus, so it also possess a intel HD integrated chipset)
-4GB DDR3 Ram
-Windows 7 Home premium service pack 1 - 64 bit
What is true vanilla MC? O.o and I really don't want to install any mods. I just like the original minecraft

Well vanilla is no mods, so your there. Might just be the laptop not running well at this point, but seems like it would to me.

Well, after installing service pack 1, I decided to give java 64 bit a second chance. It seems to be running no problem now. Thanks for all your help and every body's help. I don't get why the 32 bit would give me any problems... Windows 64 bit is supposed to be backwards compatible with 32 bit programs... This is why I switched my studies from computers to medical school
It is compatible, but its like putting Pepsi in a coke glass, it just makes no sense.
Not at all true... what if a coke glass is all you have, it will still do the same job as a regular glass. And a glass will do its job no matter if its coke or a pepsi glass. Just like if MC runs on win 32 and 32 bit Java, there should be no complications with running 32 bit java in a 64 bit system. Just like a Coke glass will hold pepsi just as well as it holds Coke. So basically what I am saying is Microsoft sucks and I can't wait for Linux to take over... which could be never but hey, a guy can dream. I did though just download Windows 8

But a coke glass is made for coke, a Pepsi glass is made for ugly boring glasses. 64 Bit optimized for 64, sure 32 bit will do the job, but it will never be the same. Which is why i hate when people put Pepsi in coke glasses.
