To preface, this is a ***** thread, feel free to flame my opinions if you feel the overwhelming need.
Alright, so this lan thing is cool and all but here's my problem; I most likely will never use it, and now single player is just as stuttery as multiplayer. I rarely played multiplayer because the experience wasn't smooth. Mobs don't walk correctly, when you hit them they rubber band slightly, when you mine a block it takes a second for the stuff to drop, the sand physics don't work correctly and I attributed these problems to latency, but here's the thing, I'm now having these problems in single player.
Don't get me wrong, mutliplayer is awesome and I can surely overlook the problems with it for the opportunity to play with my friends and pvp when that is what I'm in the mood for, but when I play single player I want to RP and get immersed in my blocky paradise, which is nearly impossible with monsters rubber banding and their animations not playing correctly. Not to mention that this update has broken nearly every single player mod out there because, oh yeah, it's not built on the single player framework anymore. The fact that I will not use the lan function just means that I as a player have been handed all the bugginess of multiplayer with none of that fun and benefit that makes me overlook it.
The feature is cool and will likely be used by a lot of players but I submit that you should have worked out the kinks that lie in the multiplayer framework before patching it in to the singleplayer environment. All of the new features coming up are very exciting but I'm having a hard time getting past the problems introduced with 1.3.
Yes, I'm bitching and it's quite minor in the grand scheme of things it also doesn't significantly impact the gameplay, at least not that I have noticed, but it's still a huge impact (for me at least) to the enjoyability of the game.
There's my 3 cents. Take it as you will.
EDIT: As I'm playing I'm noticing more and more problems. My FPS is about half of what it used to be and I'm now getting chunk load problems just like in multiplayer (chunk doesn't load in front of me and I start rubberband falling through the ground) Pretty ridiculous.
Correct , SSP runs on a internal server , means Minecraft is forced to make a server by itself so you can be available to play.
so don't complain and downgrade to 1.2.5 and problem solved
but this section is for client support not for complains about how difficult is to play 1.3.X with the lag and FPS problems
regards
Lag and FPS problems are something that was introduced with 1.3. I assume this wasn't intentional, so therefor, it's a bug. This is the support section. Figured it was appropriate to post here.
