Minecraft noob here. In fact, the game isn't really mine...it was a birthday gift for my 10 yr old son, whose friends all play and LOOOOOOVE Minecraft. He's a little bummed that it's crashing constantly, so if I can get this fixed and get his birthday gift running, you will be a rockstar .
We're running the game on a 2008 iMac (2.8 Ghz Core 2) with 4 MGs ram so that should be enough horsepower. The problem is this: he can access the inventory screen, but everytime (and I mean EVERY time) he presses E to leave the inventory screen the game crashes (brown chunks). This makes it pretty much unplayable.
I'll now attempt to attach the latest crash log for your expert perusal:
I'm reasonably techie-adept, but not any kind of coder so the error message is gibberish to me. Would appreciate any and all suggestions. (We've been so disappointed, I've actually considered getting Fusion, buying Windows and running a virtual machine on this Mac just so he can play Minecraft. That's probably a couple hundred dollars worth of overkill )
Sorry, forgot to mention what we've attempted so far...after perusing the forums, I've done 1) a force update and 2) updated the lwjgl as well. Still crashing in exactly the same way.
My son is having the same issue. I notice the OP is running Mountain Lion; we have a couple machines here running Minecraft 1.3.2 and the crashes so far are only happening on the Mountain Lion install, not on Snow Leopard. The ML machine is a MB Pro and we are not running any additional monitors, USB devices, etc. It's a fresh install of the OS, only a couple weeks old, without much clutter.
I'll check the key bindings later but I don't think he's modified any of those.
I should add, after looking at a couple other posts here: it seemed to happen only in Creative mode. He was able to play in Survival mode without the same issue happening.
Also, check your key bindings in the MC control setup, you don't have the same key bound to more than one thing do you ?
It's not the dual screen problem as this iMac as never used any monitor but the default built-in screen.
I also thought the key bindings issue would be a wash because we've never touched the default settings for key bindings. BUT...I check anyway, and see that several commands are, by default, undefined. As in, several just say "button 1". I just changed them all to definite and different keystrokes, relaunched Minecraft and viola!...no more crashing when leaving inventory.
Thank you gerbil for the heads up! I (and more importantly, my 10 yr old) will keep playing and report back if any other menus cause a crash. As of right now, fantastic!
Since I don't play on a Mac, I can't speak to what the default bindings are..
On a PC Button 1, 2 and 3 are assigned to different tasks. (mouse buttons).
Since the forum has been so helpful, thought I should add this PS to the thread in case it helps someone else. More detective work on my part reveals that my son likely (unknowingly) changed the key bindings. I think he was just exploring the settings and managed to make several commands "button 1"...which I know understand is a simple left mouse click.
In short, the crashes were almost certainly caused by the "key cannot be bound to more than one command" issue mentioned by gerbil. And Macs DO NOT come with several commands bound to "button 1" by default
I discovered the same thing - my son had also inadvertently changed the key mappings and had several conflicts. We straightened those out and Minecraft has been working find.
Would be great to have idiot-proofing built into the inventory key mapping! But in the meantime, we know where to look now...
