This problem sort of involves a server, but the root of it is the client, so I decided to post here.
I set up a dedicated server (running Ubuntu for servers) out of an extra laptop I have. Everything is working just fine - other people are using it and it's working quite well.
When I attempt to connect to it, though, my ping is always above 1000ms. Using speedtest, I determined my download speed and ping are both fine. When I go into windows command prompt and ping the IP address of my server, I get between 2 and 8 ms. My roommate (connected to the same network as me and the server) can connect to it with ~50ms ping. I checked my network usage in task manager and my network usage is below 0.5%. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft. I'm not seeing any signs that may lead to why my connection to the server is so weak. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
