I am having a problem with connecting to two servers that are hosted by companies but owned by friends whenever I try to connect to one of them after 25 seconds I get "java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: socket write error" on the login screen after displaying "Downloading terrain" for a majority of the time. When I look at the full error for one of the connects I see:

But I have no problem connecting to a maxfrag.net server, and was able to connect to all three when they were 1.2.5. I have tried updating java, rebuilding my jar, disabling my firewall, restarting my laptop, and reconnecting the Ethernet cable. My friend has tried restating the server and rebuilding the jar. When my friend looks at the server logs it says that I am in for about 30 second, and is says that the disconnect is for a generic reason.
you use 1.2.5? you can't play on a server with 1.2.5 if the server is using 1.3.X
No when the servers were 1.2.5 I could connect to them without a problem, but now I cannot connect to them without the error. I have been using 1.3.2 to try and connect to 1.3.2 servers.
it has some files that affect or block entering the MP servers. xchat has that kind of problems
if you delete it and the problem persist install it again and check if the server is ok
probably because now 1.3 have so many bugs that not even mojang have discovered, but i recommend you use 1.2.5 is the best version without bugs and the only difference is that 1.3 have emeralds and 1.2.5 don't except using a mod with emeralds
Better Than Wolves did not support SMP (especially on a server) until version 4, which is for 1.3.2. Also uninstalling ventrilo did nothing. I might try removing hamachi.
I can connect to a raid server at maxfrag.net without any problems but I get those errors when I try to connect to ether of my friends servers, even though there was know problem when the servers and my client where 1.2.5.

Retired StaffBeing at a college should not be a factor since I can connect to one server without a problem, right?
