I was double checking what was running with Microsoft's process explorer. I checked some of the properties and noticed that it says snoop.minecraft.net was listening. I don't have minecraft running and I set snooper settings to off but it seems to be running

Am I just misreading information here? I'm probably just being overly paranoid

I guess it's found in svchost.exe but is applied to the whole tree? New to this but I have some common knowledge about it

Double check that with netstat what the current status is.

open an elevated command prompt and type netstat -b
and see what the current status of the connections is.

If you want to see waht programs are listening type netstat -a -b (but that is overkill).

State: ESTABLISHED

I also checked my dns(ipconfig /displaydns) and noticed 'Section . . . Answer
PTR record . . . Snoop.minecraft.net'

I don't know for sure but established and answer sounds like my information is going though

Well, I'm not too sure, if you've had snooper settings on before, then it may just be keeping the channel open for some unknown reason, if it's just "LISTENING", then I imagine it's fine, if it bothers you, do a re-boot and see if it's still listening.

I don't really mind it listening but this is good practice I try to be safe online even when it's not 100% possible

What it sends is spelled out really lengthy under options->snooper settings.

But it can't do anything if minecraft is closed completely (check if minecraft is still loaded).

You can also turn it off at that page, and disable it all together.

I've restarted my computer and still find this.. I've had snooper disabled ever since it was released. So it was on for only a day or two after MC 1.3(?) came out

Have you noticed this problem for you as well? Should I try re-downloading minecraft?

But sure trying to force update and having the latest version of java might solve it. (not too sure to be honest).

I still really appreciate your time and help! Java was recently updated so I know it's up-to-date. I deleted minecraft.jar and logged into minecraft but it's freezing at 'Done Loading' :|

Guess I'll leave this up for a few hours and if it doesn't work I'll try to update again tomorrow.

Derp. Forgot you have to delete .minecraft to force update.. or was it just the bin? Oh well haha. Force updating now. Will post this with updates

Edit: I really have no clue I'm wondering if this is a bug with minecraft. Hoping someone else will post with this same problem

Edit: Thanks anyways! As I said above, I don't mind Mojang knowing my computer specs but I would like the ability to turn it on or off

Though I'd let this thread die but I have no idea how to contact Mojang. I have no twitter, no reddit, and the help center just seems to let me read FAQ's and not ask a question.

That will have to do I think I'll check with friedzombie tuesday and if that doesn't work, screw it! Haha, I don't want to take a chance at making a twitter account just for mojang to possibly see my problem
