Hi, I just installed Minecraft a few days ago and I'm loving it, but I kept getting the annoying error, "Minecraft has run out of memory". Today I tried to allocate Minecraft more RAM by making this text file and saving it as a .bat file. The .bat file didn't work, it briefly showed me a command prompt window and disappeared (Too fast for me to read), so I just went to launch Minecraft as usual. It threw me the error, "Could not create the java virtual machine". I reinstalled Java, and this time it threw me two errors. The first one, and "A fatal exception has occurred", something along those lines anyway.
I looked for an answer and somebody suggested downloading the .jar file from the MC website. I did so, and it worked once. It ended with the Minecraft has run out of memory thing. I looked again for answers and somebody said that if you are using 64-bit (which I am), you should have 64-bit Java. I went and installed that - lo and behold, my .jar file isn't working, throwing me the same two errors that the .exe file does. I went and uninstalled the 64-bit java, and my .jar file said, "Windows can't find what to open this file with". I opened it with Java, and now it does the same command prompt black window, too fast for me to read.
go to control panel/in the search box type "adv" and you should see system settings right? below you see something called view advanced system settings go there/in that box go to environment variables/in the first box click new/variable name: _JAVA_OPTIONS/variable value: -Xmx2g -Xms2g if you need more then type 3g 3g , etc etc etc
hope it works
