I'm sure this is a very frequent topic, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I recently bought a desktop computer for two games, ArmA II and Minecraft. ArmA two I can run on High-Very High settings with little lag if any, however Minecraft just does not want to run that well. I get between 30-50 fps with far render distance and fancy settings with 50% shading and particles minimal with clouds off (this is with optifine). I get around 100 fps with the lowest possible settings and it is still lagging horribly. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it is a problem with my computer or with Minecraft. These are my specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 Processor 3.20 ghz, 4 cores
Graphics Chipset: Radeon HD 5800 series;(Memory size)1024 MB;(Core clock) 875 MHz;(Memory clock)1300 MHz
RAM: 16 GB
System type: 64-bit
Available Space on (C:): 265 GB of 465 GB
(Tell me if I missed something important)

P.S. I have tried disk clean-up, defragmenting my hard drive etc. Also my java is up to date. I just updated it as well as my driver.

How would I be able to run Minecraft with more RAM? (I have an idea but I want to make sure it is right).

P.S. Yes I do have a 64-bit Java.

More RAM for Minecraft is bad. I believe (and hope) he was checking to make sure you weren't allocating 8GB or something to Minecraft.

No. With a 64x texture it only affects slightly though.

Java 7u7 64-bit.I must be doing something wrong I just don't know what.
