stuck in portal

after creating my neither portal and stepping through, I arive in the neither realm but find i am completely unable to exit the portal. i'm stuck and closing and restarting the game did not help!

please help!

is there a specific version i should be using. i did download a MCEdit and attempt to move my character. to no effect.

Break the portal, step out, light portal, step in.
