Hey everyone, since 1.3 cam out I've been having severe FPS issues. The most that Minecraft will ever give me is 30FPS, no matter what I try. No matter the graphics settings, or mods installed, I only get 30FPS. I've even tried with and without optifine. Now, I know it's not my computer, since before 1.3 I would play on about 800FPS. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Is the FPS thing in the options at Max FPS? Thats all that I could possibly think of. It could be at balanced or something, which is what would cause it to drop.

Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink! Good luck.
Allocate about 512mb of RAM. Minecraft doesn't need more and it can slow down with more.
Also, you've disabled the page file (you've got enough RAM so it'd be faster), search (bad for SSDs), and auto defrag (bad for SSDs) for your SSD, right?

I do have it on Max FPS.
I think the issue has something to do with Minecraft attempting to match the chunk updates to the FPS. It appears that the chunk updates and FPS are almost always the same. So if there are 27 chunk updates, I've only got 27FPS.
Hmmm... did this start happening when you installed optifine? Because this is exactly what happened when I installed it on my gaming rig, my fps somehow decreased instead of increasing.
It happens both with and without it.

Has your computer been running slow recently? If so you may have a virus.
Another thing I can think of is if you have the latest Java update installed.
Another thing (more simple and stupid) is to force update your Minecraft, if you don't know how, boot up MC, and on the Log In screen, above the Login button there is an Options button, click that and you will see a pop-up window with the option to "Force Update", click that button and close the pop-up window, and log in.
YET another thing is to completely wipe your MC files, by typing %appdata% (WITH the % signs) in your Run or Search bar in the Start Menu. A window should pop up and one of the top folders should be .minecraft. Delete this folder (if you do not want to lose your Singleplayer worlds go into .minecraft and find the saves folder, and copy your world(s) to a different location.) and Force Update like I previously said.
This is a long response but hopefully this will help fix the problem!

Thanks for the help, but I've literally tried all of the above. This is a really odd bug, and I really have no clue what's going on. I can play other games on the highest setting possible, and get 150+ fps.

Minecraft is a 16 pixel game it doesn't need a 7970 in crossfire, nor does it need such a powerful CPU. When you open minecraft it may be switching to your integrated graphics as minecraft doesn't need that much power. You could try checking if that is the problem.
Well, my motherboard doesn't even support on-board graphics so that's basically impossible.
After a little playing around, I think I've found the problem. I think it's the gpu settings, something about it is wanting to default to 60fps in everything, basically. Anyone have any idea why AMD Catalyst would want to default to vsync?

Because it's better on your energy bills. Most monitors will not even display faster than 60FPS, so some cards automatically set to VSync to save on energy usage for your Video Card.
I know for a fact that I've got a 120 Hertz monitor, so I'd really like to see Minecraft getting at least that, and if it is the card that's causing the vsync, why did it just start doing it now?

If there is anything else that'd help, I'd be happy to let you know.

Thanks for the help, but I've already tried it, but to no avail. :/

Yes, every time Catalyst reminds me to update the card.
I think our problems might be somewhat different. What are your specs?
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 260 x2 (SLI)
HDD: 500 GB x2
RAM: 8 GB
The 260's are older cards, and Minecraft doesn't benefit from SLI or Crossfire, but with those cards you shouldn't have any fps issues at all.

No background programs. No virus.
Win7 Home x64.
ATi HD7770.
Asus P5N-D MB.
Core 2 Duo 3.4Ghz.
8Gig Dual Channel ram.
SATA standard spindle type drives.
MB drivers, video drivers all uninstalled/reinstalled.
Minecraft files removed and reinstalled.
No texture patch. Vanilla.
Extremely frustrated.
