I installed minecraft for my Ubuntu 11.10
When I run it with java 6 runtime it opens up minecraft, i sign in, then on the "MOJANG" loading screen my whole computer freezes and i have to manually turn it off by the power button. I heard that isnt very good for the computer itself. So does anyone have a fix? Or a link to a tutorial or something?
I had the same problem. It wouldn't turn my computer off, but it would lock up and after about 30 seconds to a minute, would run normally again. Minecraft would work perfectly afterwards too. It's possible you have the same problem that I did and have some conflicting issues with Java. Try using JavaRa to uninstall all of Java and reinstall it fresh. It fixed everything for me!
