So I bought Minecraft back when it was in Beta stage and have loved playing it ever since. Unfortunately for my computer, I recently had a computer bug that was irreversible, and I had to reset my computer to factory settings.
I reinstalled Minecraft, and when I got into the game it was unbearably laggy. My computer is an HP Laptop, not made for gaming, so I usually can't play on top graphic settings anyway, so I was used to that. But I set all the graphics low and even the view distance to Tiny, and the game is still laggy. To the point of being practically unplayable. Which is disheartening. Because I really want to play it with that latest update, now that my computer's fixed.
I reinstalled Java, but is there something else I'm somehow forgetting that's making the game so choppy and slow?
Help is much appreciated.
I'll check the drivers and the different Java installations. And maybe I'll use Optifine, but for now I'm just focusing on getting at least what Minecraft used to run at. Thanks for the advice; I'll keep you posted.

Retired StaffAlso, make sure that you've got both 32bit and 64bit Java 7 JRE installed.
Optifine really helps, too. It can boost FPS on any system.

It has more options to improve game performance.
