Hey. Running on Windows 8 Pro 64 bits, Java 1.7.0_06 (64 bits), Athlon 64 X2 5000 3.08GHz, 4GB DDR2 800 Dual Channel, GTX550 Ti, 2x 7200RPM HDD's 32mb buffer
I'm getting around 50~60% usage while on the ingame MENU. While playing, I'm getting choppy gameplay (15fps), while using only 15% of the GPU and 100% of the CPU. Used to run just fine on Windows 7.
A friend mine was also getting this same lagspike on his Windows 7, so I don't think it's an O.S. problem.
Any clues?

With or without OptiFine, 11~17fps. It ain't a plugin problem, as it seems
You might just have a slow computer, my old desktop would lag like crazy and kick me out of minecraft saying minecraft has run out of memory. My new 2011 laptop works flawlessly.

Unlikely... I've posted my setup on the first post, it should be enough for Minecraft (it is for GTA IV). It runs flawlessly on Ubuntu, but I'm kinda using Win8 more right now, so I'd love having it to work just like Ubuntu =/
It could be a driver issue. I would suggest turning off Advanced Open GL in the MC video options if you have it on. Some drivers implement that functionality in software, which would potentially result in what you are seeing.

That.... sounds plausible. But even on the menu it keeps eating my CPU resources. Thinking again there's a scenario rotating behind
but on loadscreen it doesn't uses that much CPU...
Win 8 isn“t really finnished yet.
Not likely anyone can tell you the problem at the moment. Cause it can be anything from java incompability to bad drivers for your graphics cards in Win 8.
Windows 8 is RTM'ed, it means finished. Drivers have been specially made for it and Java claims full support to it..
Thanks for the try, though.

My first reaction is "what?!". Are you sure you're using the right Java? Java is at version 7 now

I'll take a look at it

Problem is that this CPU usage persists during the game =/
