I own a HP Pavilion DV6 Laptop. The specs that you need to know about are:
- Processor: Intel Core i7 2630QM - 2.00GHz
- RAM: 8GB
- Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 2GB GDDR5
- Resolution: 1366 x 768
And a 500GB Hard Disk.
I am currently running Minecraft with no texture packs but with OptiFine mod.
I have tried using the CMD .bat file to allocate more memory, and I have tried updating Java to the latest version.
The problem is still the same: I get only about 10-20 fps while playing. This is HORRIBLE.
Eventually, after a while of playing, it goes all the way down to 5fps.
Any suggestions on what to do?
With my current PC specs I'd be expecting to get a constant, clear 100fps if not more.
Make sure your laptop is plugged in. Check what other processes are running. Run a Virus scan, check for malware.
Laptop is running, all other processes closed down except for the Windows essentials, and I run both a virus scan (bitdefender) and a disk defrag weekly. FPS is still bad.
I remember when Minecraft was in Beta, I used to have 65 fps with a 64x texture pack and all settings maximised. Now it's so bad that if I place a block the lag makes me place it twice.
HP Pavilions have a known issue where they don't use the discrete GPU when using Open GL.
HP has a solution for this (bios and driver updates) that let you set the PC to manually switch between the two GPUs.
However many people who have done this update have subsequently reported that the AMD driver crashes.

And by the way, bump!
