It seems the "minecraft has run out of memory" crash only happens when I enter the nether. Is there a fix for this? My computer is pretty up to date. I have no lag until I enter the nether and then it crashes. I play on the highest settings without issue. I can turn my settings down to minimum and the nether always crashes my computer upon entering. It always gives that Minecraft has run out of memory message.
The light system is screwing the Nether up. Mojang can make a better lighting system next time at all.
Also you need to allocate more memory before entering the Nether.
I'm still unfamiliar with MCedit but it doesn't seem to tell me anything is "wrong" with the nether. Tried allocating more memory and it seems to be lagging like crazy every 2-3 minutes and then it goes back to normal... sharp lag... Like I said... this is only in the nether, no matter what settings I have it on... I'm sure it will probably crash again because the lag spikes are so bad... but its almost... glitching out... its weird... I've been told that my world is corrupt as well... I've checked that out and I have multiple worlds... Each one does the same. I dunno what it is... but my computer seems to -hate- the Nether... It's not constantly lag... its sharp lag every few minutes and often crashes...

Please help -.-
Hi there, I have a lot of this problem too. This is mainly caused by the number of lighting Minecraft has to calculate. If you try going into a chunk with thousands of lights it will lag too. The Nether has hundereds of thousands of lighting sources from lava and fire (ok, exaggeration). There are a few ways to avoid this:
1. Try not using smooth lighting.
2. Making the RAM available to Minecraft higher. I am a Mac user so I don't know about the memory crash screen since Mac just pages out the memory :\
3. Try this mod: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1238817-nether-lag-fix-client/
okay I have noticed something. When allocating more memory to minecraft it still shows that I have 227 MB of RAM allocated in the top right corner. I'm used the notepad javaw -Xmx2048m -Xms1024m -jar with several different numbers for the xmx and xms... I did everything pretty much -every- tutorial has shown me on youtube but I noticed that my allocated memory when pressing f3 doesn't go higher than 227? Am I doing something wrong? I'm sure I have all of the commands right.
I just can't figure this out... Stupid Nether keeps kicking me... "Minecraft has run out of memory" is soooo horrible. x.x I've tried every setting, I've tried lowering allocated memory, I've tried raising it... nothing.
I don't really want to try a mod, limdingwen. I know it sounds silly but I know my computer can handle this game without any lag whatsoever. I'm a huge fan of vanilla minecraft and I'm just against mods... for myself, anyway. Also, I don't know what you mean when you say "2. Making the RAM available to Minecraft higher. I am a Mac user so I don't know about the memory crash screen since Mac just pages out the memory :\" I'm not sure how to do that.
This problem has been going on forever. It's been really annoying but I want to fix it. Please help.
