Hey guys,
I have an Acer laptop that I got about 2 years ago, and has always ran Minecraft like a dream; no crashes, no overheats, no problems. Then, just two days ago I had my laptop professionally cleaned out, and my lpatop was running better than ever! Then I started up Minecraft, logged in, and once the main menu screen loaded, my computer shut itself off, no "Shutting Down" screen or anything, just instantaneously shut down. I left my laptop for aabout 30-mins, assuming it had just overheated and it needed to cool down.
I started it up again, but crashed at the main menu again! I could run Portal, Team Fortress and other online games perfectly fine, but no problems.
Specs:
Rating - 3.3 (Windows Experience Index)
RAM - 4.00GB (3.87GB usable)
Processor - Intel Core i5 CPU M 460 @ 2.53GHz
System Type - 64-bit OS
Windows 7 is registered.
Under Performance Information and Tools:
Processor - Score of 6.8
RAM - Score of 5.9
Graphics - 3.3
Gaming Graphics - 5.4
Primary Hard Disk - 5.6
Overall Score - 3.3 (Determined by lowest score)
Go back to the dudes who 'cleaned' your laptop and ask them what they did your computer.
One thing they might have done, not necessarily their fault per se, is cause the thermal paste between your GPU and its heat sink to finally crack due to age. This would cause your GPU to overheat quite rapidly when running MC, but is also something easy to fix (just replace the thermal paste).
But then why not the other games? Is MC the only game that uses OpenGL out of the games specified? If so, then possibly some part of the heatsink was damaged, but only the part over the part of the card that is used for OpenGL. Wild guess.
some other games I've been playing use OpenGL too, like Starcraft.
So I think you might be right
Maybe MC just puts more stress on your card than anything else. Try running more than one of the other games at once. I don't know if this will lead you to anything or not, but it's worth a try in my perspective.
OK, I ran TF2, Portal 1+2, and Starcraft 2 at once, no crash.I downloaded a fresh MC launcher, testing it now

I went down to the guys who had repaired my laptop earlier, showed them what was happening, but I didnt crash!
Of course, when I got back home and tried the same thing, I CRASHED AGAIN!
If it overheats now and didn't before, my money is still on a problem with the GPU heat sink.
As I said (assuming the people who cleaned it didn't take the heat sink off), it isn't a big deal to put new thermal paste. Whoever cleaned your system might even do this for you if you complain to them that you are having overheating problems after they worked on your system.

I just crashed again, and after I passed the Starting Windows screen and reached my desktop, there are static bars rolling across the screen. I've done some research, and it looks like the guys who cleaned out my laptop have knocked something loose
Anyways, taking it back up ASAP, I'll keep you guys updated.
And again, thanks to all of you for helping me out

Sadly, no. This weekend I'm taking my laptop to some different guys, see if the can see the problem. I know it's a hardware problem, cuz I did a fresh install of windows, and it still crashes :/

Can anyone help me out?

But don't get hung up on other games, people always complain that MC makes their GPU get hotter than any other game they have.
Thanks for all of you guys trying to help, I really appreciate it!

I already have a cooling pad, which doesn't help.
I'm going to try playing offline, and see if that changes anything.

Yeah, pretty much. But that was a on-off problem, hasn't happened since.
