I just installed Windows 8 preview build 8400 and now I'm installing all my games.
Everything is working fine (even though the start menu doesn't exist any more..) except for the memory allocation for Minecraft, wich pretty much makes it unplayable after 10 sec...
I have moved my minecraft exe to my secondary harddrive and I have also created the .bat file in the same folder as usual BUT when i run the bat-file nothing happens except for a quick flash of the black cmd-like black window....
I've tried running as admin and with the compatability settings for Win 7 but still it's non working...
What is it that I have missed or is it simply just not playable on Win 8???
Thankful for every answer even brainstorming is better then nothing!
I don't really know but somehow java has trouble cooperating with windows 8 , or atleast it's harder to configure... Is there anyone who's having windows 8 and working Minecraft on it?
1) If you add "PAUSE" to the end of your bat file then the window will not close until you hit a key.
2) You have probably garbled the command line, or tried to use an invalid amount of memory (e.g. more than 1500MB when using 32bit Java).
As an aside, I doubt that increasing memory will help your performance.
I try to allocate about 2058 or something sort of 2 Gigs. I realized that it didn't work before (btw Im using Magic Launcher to choose memory allocated) because I had java 32-bit. I upgraded to 64 bit since my computer has six gigs of RAM and is 64 bit system. Although when I press F3 to see memory allocated, it stays at like 19xx (19 hundred something). Any reasons why this isn't working? Do I have to go into java files and edit some files to make max RAM allocated by java more?
BTW Computer Info:
Intel Core i3-3217U CPU @1.80 GHz
64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
Installed Memory (RAM) is 6 GB (It says 5.87 GB is useable in Parenthesis)

But somehow it solved itself the other day and I have no explanation for it
