In 1.2.5, I would hit Refresh or Multiplayer and it would load just fine. But now that I have 1.3.1, if I go to multiplayer, it takes about 30 seconds for everything to lad(players, ping, server message of the day.) Does anyone have a fix for it? It also takes about 10 seconds to join a server. Please help!
It's called "lag" increasing your internet speed should fix it. Or the server.
Incorrect my fine sir.
This is an actual issue with the new update the Minecraft. I like to blame it on the fact that it now browses LAN, but I honestly have no idea why it does this. It also takes my client around 10 seconds to connect to a server after it freezes at the server list screen.
I had the same problem, I'm not sure if this works for everyone but try deleting your bin and re-downloading minecraft(backup all files u wanna keep) tell me if this works or not.
The code launches up to 5 threads (at a time), each of which attempts to connect to one server.
So if you have a lot of servers, it can take time before it even tries to poll the ones further down the list.
But I don't see this affecting the delay (it's not set until the server's thread starts.)
The bar graph is directly tied to the measured latency. 5 bars < 150ms, 4 bars < 300ms, 3 bars < 600ms, 2 bar < 1000ms, 1 bar for some connection, 0 bar for no connection.
Unfortunately I don't know how this might have changed since 1.2, but I don't see any changes in behavior, so I suspect that those who do have single or dual core CPUs and the change might be related to having 5 threads running in parallel....
I run quad-core (although my os reads oct-core) and the issue happens with me as well. I'm pretty sure it is the searching for lan feature they introduced. On occasion I do have a server that seems to load the status regardless of this. But the odd bit about that is I have two servers on the same machine (one for testing, another for public use) on the same IP but only one loads on the multiplayer screen instantly where the other takes 15sec or so along with the rest of my list. Even hosting a server locally doesn't load instantly either.
