Ok as we all know when 1.3 came out there was a bug where everyone defaulted to the steve (basic) skin.
It is still completely random as some days we can go on our server and we see each others proper skins but the next day everyone has the default skin... This is getting extremely annoying as some of us use skin changing mods while playing minecraft (ie. the MLP mod). Has mojang acknowledged this bug or are we going to be kept in the dark until they decide to fix it?
This is a client side bug and can be fixed by restarting the client. Others can see your skin.
No, it is not, temporarily maybe, and no they can't. Not reliably.
This is entirely a Mojang / Amazon server side problem. The 1.3 skin server may or may not give you the right skin for any given skin request. It may work now, and not work in 10 minutes, then work again in an hour.
I agree, the skins right now are being fickle. Sometimes my skin will be wiped and I have the default; when I attempt to change it nothing happens. Other days I won't have a problem.
Having the same problem. I'm going to see if forcing an update fixes it, then repatch with MCPatcher and reload Faerielight Texture pack.Just confirmed, it works if you select FORCE UPDATE under options.
Just repatched with MC patcher, reloaded a 128 bit Texture pack, works fine now. Seems to be an on and off bug. I'll let the other players on my server know, thank you to the folks who have publicly announced this is a bug, so we don't spend hours fighting with permissions, firewalls, and reuploading skins unnecessarily.

Who cares? Steve is a nice skin. It's nice to have skin server down once in a while. Brings back the feel of classic minecraft when everyone was steve.
Just because other people's skins are down for a bit isn't so bad, why can't you tolerate it?

That is the question everyone is dying to have answered.
