Usually this is caused by just messy or bad programming. I'm sure if they just clean up their java code, the bug will be gone. We just have to hope that Mojang takes their time reviewing over the MC 1.4 code.
mmm - I'm not sure there is a choice, as there definitely isn't a fix. I haven't got around to trying to post a bug report yet, too much life getting in the way of MC.
Im having the same exact problem that everyone else is. Im really glad its me because i posted a error on the first or second day of 1.3.1 when it came out. All i know is that javaw.exe/java.exe is not closing, It takes up memory, you have to restart to fix it, doesnt happen with 1.2.5 or lower, and it can happen to any type of computer (as far as i know).
I run a Windows XP 32 bit
3.25 GB of RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
And the latest version of Java
Oh and ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro
I have tried to update my ATI but it wont let me probly because im terrible at computers
I also have a problem where if im on too long the servers will never connect and if i go to the menu and try to go to the list again I crash, here is the crash report
(Oops... I lost the crash report, If i find it or get it again ill edit it in.)
Also I think this may have to do with the LAN Server maybe :I Im not so sure, I guess we have to hope Mojang fixes it. If they do Thank God. If not I hope we can figure this out maybe we could Email Mojang if possible.
I ran into the issue earlier, and after activating my Game Booster (v3.4), it appears the process disappeared. However, when I looked at the processes that were 'killed' javaw.exe was not listed.
I hate resurrecting old topics but I'm still getting the same issue. It has been happening for a while now, not only since 1.3.1. Maybe since one of the Betas or the full release. Every single MC version I use is running Optifine but, as stated, both Vanilla and non-Vanilla seem to have this issue. Video card is Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Windows 7 Ultimate x86 SP1. 3GB of ram and running from Magic Launcher. When Java reaches around 600-800k KB, it just freezes there forever.
I don't think it is quite an issue on MC's end, but maybe something to do with the amount of memory Java uses. Maybe when it reaches a certain point close to or past a certain limit, which may vary from computer to computer, it hangs in there.
Hopefully more people will see this thread and report if they have the same issue, or maybe come up with some way to fix this without having to reboot.
People have made assumptions that doing this or that fixes the problem, but most likely it won't fix it. Minecraft javaw.exe won't always just stay there every time. Sometimes it will keep running the process and sometimes it'll actually close the process.
I've reached about 6 javaw.exe's that take up about 4GB of RAM. but my CPU stays very low like at 0-10%. Also my RAM usage was at around 96% Usage which should have resulted in a blue screen of death; however, nothing happened.
I think from what I've seen, it may be the new minecraft update with ATI Graphics cards. Everyone I know that has been having this problem has a ATI and everyone that I know that don't have this problem are using a Mac or NVidia graphics card.
I'll tell you what doesn't work.
1. Clean update still causes the problem.
2. Using a different launcher still causes the problem.
3. Using batch files still causes the problem.
4. Whether it Crashes, You click the x button, you press terminate the process, or you click the Quit Game button, it still causes the problem.
5. Deleting 1.2.5 minecraft that for some reason gets downloaded in force update still causes the problem.
6. Clicking End Process Tree or End Process still causes the problem.
7. Using mods or not still cuases the problem.
8. Having Java 7 Update 5 or Java 6 or Java 7 Update 3. It doesn't matter. It still causes it.
A lot of people have just been uselessly saying these things fix it, but you have to understand that sometimes things like this doesn't work for everyone. Maybe just you.
I am for SURE that problem originates from Minecraft. It may be the compatibility between Minecraft and Java or the Graphics card.
But this problem has not occured to me ever, until 1.3.1 came out.
I can also confim all this. I have a Raedon graphics card and have tried everything. Nothing works.
Well my graphics card is built into my computer's processor. I'm running a quad-core and my drivers are all up-to-date. I heard other people had this probem, but had different graphics cards. It got fixed when they updated their drivers.
The biggest probem for me is the nearly constant crashing and the "javaw" process that does not stop once Minecraft closes. You also cannot kill this process through task manager. The only way is to restart your computer. Also, everytime I close Minecraft (or it crashes) and I open Minecraft again a new "javaw" process will start and run until I restart my computer. Multiple javaw processes will build up until they crash my computer from eating up all the RAM.
When I had the problem, these "dead" javaw.exe did not take real RAM. They would say they took lots of RAM, but it never crashed my computer with BSOD saying I was out of RAM. Actually, when I started another memory hungry program or game, it would automatically close those javaw.exe to make room for that new program. It's been confirmed by couple other people. Maybe you try yourself too?
All of my computers have this issue. That includes a Win XP HE computer, 3 windows 7 computers, and a Windows 8 Computer. I dont think it involves graphics at all, becuase the same problem occurs on AMD Phenom XII x2 integrated graphics.

and im getting really bored waiting.

Does this not happen on 1.4? Im to scared to try o.oIm going to try :I
IT DOESN"T WORK D: (Atleast with my computer I have no idea about everyone else's)
Mojang's help department isn't very good imo.. I have contacted them and never received a reply for 2 weeks.
Give attention to it so it can be higher on the agenda!

Any replies?
