Well after many days of this thread being up, it appears that two-thirds of you have experienced the FPS issues. So it looks like this is a real issue that happens to a lot of people. I would really appreciate it if somebody could sticky this thread. It's just that, we've heard no word on the developer's end about plans to fix this issue, or even acknowledgment that this issue exists. And it's my personal opinion (but probably an opinion shared by many) that an issue that makes a game less playable is an important one to keep in mind. Also, I feel this thread is informative for other people who may come in and experience the same issue.
I get massive stutter with 1.3.x. Never had these problems in previous builds. Have tried Optifine and whatnot, still no real improvement. It is almost like a micro-stutter that occurs every few seconds for a split second, even when chunks are not loading.
I gained a very slight increase of FPS with the 1.3.1 update, but now I cannot wander anywhere near a Taiga or Jungle biome unless I want a massive lag spike.
I also notice huge lag spikes near jungles. Lag spikes that weren't there before obviously.
I think everyone is experiencing huge lag spikes, regardless of whether they've had an FPS decrease. I think that's a seperate problem. It's just more noticable when your FPS drops from 100 to 1 than it is when it drops from 200 to 100.
Hello,
Recently I have also experienced the issue that many of you have been describing. I am able to play minecraft for about 5 minutes before a dramatic frame-rate drop to about 0 or 1 fps. This is very annoying since I just purchased the game 2 days ago. My specs are not the issue and I have the latest version of Java. Please fix this awful bug.
I've had an interesting revelation in this issue. For myself at least.
While I was working on an animal farm on my SMP server, I would notice extreme moments of FPS drops in very consistent and specific areas. One thing I noticed every time was a big stutter of sound. I managed to very consistently reproduce the bug. While reproducing it, I would look at the debug menu CPU chart. (That thing is awesome.) Sound would take a much bigger portion whenever the FPS drop would happen. I then set sound in Minecraft to 0%. Something interesting happened. I could no longer reproduce the bug. No more FPS drops. None at all. I could reproduce the bug again after turning the sound up again.
If anybody could find an area that their FPS drop in, try turning off your sound and see if that remedies the problem.
I have noticed another glitch since 1.4, Sometimes when you aren't looking at redstone wiring nearby that is turning on and off the redstone will break and drop as items. This has happened multiple times. I replace it sometimes and when i look away and walk away it happens again. The fps thing is also Extreme for me. often it will remain at 0 for around 10-30 seconds, then jump up to 60 or 70. It does not happen on multiplayer. I am using a i-mac less than 5 years old. I think that it began actually after I used the snapshot 36a. In 1.4 it became almost impossible to play for over 15 minutes. Even youtubers like Etho have had framerate problems after using a snapshot. A ton of people watch Etho and if we were to post comments about the fps problem some mojang workers might see it. It would at least bring people to this forum. I play with no sound but I have noticed that if you watch a youtube video the video will lag whenever the fps goes down as well as my clock on my computer lagging. Minecraft needs to fix this!
I posted the bug on the official bug tracker but I am not the only one to do so and it seems like they are all being ignored. The link is here Minecraft - Mojira. If enough people report this to them they may decide to change something.
I started a poll on the forum of a server I play on to see how many poeple are having this problem since most people who visit this are experiencing the problem and trying to find out if anyone else is. AlsoI think that the problem could be related to the snapshot. maybe could people please say if they have played on a snapshot and which snapshot it is.
My fps has increased, however lag starts to take over after the world's done loading. The lag is so bad that Minecraft no longer becomes fun, optifine did nothing but cause extra problems. Grrr you will know how bad it is after you see what happens on my computer.
