Recently my Minecraft's news page in the downloaded version doesn't load and when I try to sign it I just give me "Fatal error occured (4): Permission denied: connect" after I try to log in to play in the downloaded version. If I try to play in the browser I get froze on whatever page I was last on and it just says its loading. After about an hour of loading it says that the page crashed. I've uninstalled all my javas reinstalled them, allowed javaw in my firewall, redownloaded Minecraft, deleted my .minecraft folder, and tried using the portable version for pc so I wouldn't have to use java. Could anybody help me? I don't want to have to boot my pc just to play Minecraft again.
Same thing happened to me. I've tried everything including reinstalling java, deleting .minecraft file, restarting my computer, and force updating. It's a problem with Minecraft itself and Mojang really needs to get there act together because its been an issue with thousands of Minecraft users. You may have to wait a few days because there may be a fault in the update. Don't worry I haven't been able to play since yesterday so I would give it a bit of time before you try to log in again.

Be careful who blame for something. If this was a code level issue, no one would be able to play. If its a java level issue, it could be narrowed down to which versions had the bug. If it was an OS native issue, it would had been easy to identify. So all that leaves is software configurations. Sadly the people who least understand the OS are also the ones that run the most problematic Anti-viruses, have no idea how to control them, and simply lets everything do what it wants.
Sadly, most people don't run a clean enough setup, more then half of that only know technical terms they heard on the internet, but have no idea what they mean, and the remainder have never heard of a DLL until the error told them about it.
Now look at the error "Fatal error occured (4): Permission denied: connect". If this really was just a code level issue, it would have to be doing an abnormal operation within the JVM, and would be easily replicated in a given JRE. Since thats not the case, there is an external influence (somewhere between it and the network stack) that telling it the request won't be processed. The only programs known to operate in that level are the OS, software Firewalls, Anti-viruses, Malware, and in rare cases, stack replacements (I'm looking at you AOL).
This Is A Error That Occurs Because Of Your Virus Software (Like McAfee, Kaspersky, Etc.) Minecraft Is Not VIRUSED Software, Yet, Some Software Considers It That Way, This Is A Very Common Problem When Using Norton. This Problem Can Be Fixed In VERY Simple Ways
1. Remove Norton -.-
2. Create A Exception For The Software
3. Disable Your Firewall When Playing Minecraft
One resource that I use for the Fatal Error (4) claims that this particular message happens with Java 7, and not Java 6.
Which implies that it might be the IPv6 issue. So try this fix. Or swap out Java 7 for the most recent version of Java 6
I've had the exact same problem and it's so annoying because I can't play on the downloaded version because it says path not specified. Java messes up everything in my game and it'ssssssoooooooooooo annoying!
