I guess I'm adding to the pile of "Can't connect to minecraft.net" problems!

I purchased Minecraft earlier today, and instantly got this error upon trying it out on my computer. I also can't play on Chrome nor Firefox. But, when trying it on my dad's laptop, it worked out just fine and I can play just fine. This isn't the setup I'd like to play Minecraft with, as my dad's computer is, well, his computer... I'd like to play it on mine. I'm running on Windows Vista 64-bit, my username and password are definitely correct, Java is updated (I even tried an older version of Java as per Google results, and no nice). Help?

@OP: If you use the launcher, does show a grey background with some HTML and a connect error?

No, the news page loads and everything - I just can't connect to minecraft.net.

Check the date, time, and YEAR set on your computer

Maybe Minecraft.net was down at the time. Try again a day after the incident.

starlinvf, if the date is wrong, then the SSL certification validation can fail, so some SSL connections can fail.

If the news works, then Java has connectivitiy in general, he claims that his hosts file doesn't block minecraft.net so it's not that. Next step is that the login process needs SSL to work. This particular problem was very common a few months back when the Mojang SSL certificate expired and a new one was issued.

Yeah, I thought this might be the problem, but even a few days later I can't login on my computer but can login without trouble on my dad's... Hm.

Java to 1.7 perhaps?

make sure you have the latest of 64 bit java. Minecraft.net may be down or you may not be able to connect to the internet. Try logging in with your browser

i tried this a bunch of times and still doesnt work

Hello, sorry I can't help you, but I cant figure out how to post, so since this post is about the same problem I have I decided to use this Anyway, I've had the same problem. This has happened before, then it just randomley started working again. This time however, it's not. Can anyone help?!

*I've updated Java

*Minecraft.net isn't down

*The time, date, ect. are all up to date

*Ive deleted and re-installed Minecraft

It still can't connect Im absolutely sure my Username/password is correct.
I was using minecraft only yesterday so I have no idea what happened.

Please help?!

By the way, Im not very good with computers :L
