i also have this problem i have the full version of minecraft and i am trying to dowload mods but i dont have a minecraft.jar folder, when i tryed to find it i typed in %appdata% in the start menu then clicked on .minecraft then bin and the only files there are (natives), (jinput), (lwjgl), (lwjgl_util),(md5s),(minecraft),(minecraft-1.2.5) and (version) and it wont let me open any of themanyway it says A JAVA EXCEPTION HAS OCCURED and the only option to do there is click O.K
the 'minecraft' file is your .jar that minecraft runs on. to open it u need 7-zip or WinRar
Sounds like Windows is hiding the .jar extention on your files
Go into Control pannel -> Folder options, and then open the "Veiw" tab
Scroll down to "Hide extensions for known file types" and UNCHECK it, this will tell windows "Hey, stop hiding my .jar extensions! I want to know what I file is before I modify it!"
Don't forget to hit Apply, then OK.
man, i logged in JUST to say THANK YOU! this helped me and ended all my frustration before i roundhouse kicked my pc ^.^ i love you and NO HOMO

First of all, see the file I put in bold in the quote? That's the minecraft.jar. And you can't open them because you need 7 zip or WinRAR to do that.
Oh my god, you make a screenshot of your bin file by simply going into the bin file, opening it, then pressing CTRL and PRTSC at the same time (if your keyboard has a FN key, do that instead of CTRL), then going into Paint and click Paste and then save the image and then upload it to Imgur (www.imgur.com). How you upload an image to Imgur is by clicking the arrow in a cloud button and then click browse your computer. Then you go into pictures and then click the picture of your bin. Then start the upload and then when you see your picture, copy the website and post it here so we can see if you have a minecraft.jar, and I believe you do have one or else you wouldn't be able to play Minecraft.
That's because you posted in an old thread that is now obsolete due to the new launcher.
The game jar is no longer ".minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar" now it is ".minecraft/versions/<someversion>/<someversion>.jar"

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

like ".minecraft/versions/1.6.2/1.6.2.jar"
I have the exact same problem!
1.6.2json
It should be called just "1.6.2". By default, Windows hides file extensions of known formats, so "1.6.2.jar" will be shown as "1.6.2".
