I put together a PC for my friend with the intention of it being used for Minecraft, or at least at playable FPS. Unfortunately, so far, this computer has done all but Minecraft successfully, and in Minecraft it displays an annoying graphics problem which makes the game practically unplayable.
There are transparent (usually blue / sky colored) lines bordering perspective-layers of blocks, i.e. focal layers if the game were in true 3D. I have a couple screenshots to illustrate this.
Note: These screenshots were merely taken to basically illustrate the problem; note that the actual problem in-game is far worse as the lines show up underground (see gdea73.it.cx/img/misc/mc2.png), and they oscillate and move when the player adjusts his viewpoint. It was difficult to get a static screen showing the glitch, which is why I took many. These two proved most useful.
I've tried messing with the AA settings in Catalyst, or really all 3D settings, and I can't get the problem to go away. I've tried reinstalling Java, Catalyst/display drivers, Minecraft, etc. and I still see the lines everywhere. I've seen posts of similar problems before but the problem was either (a) never resolved, and the thread was out of date, or ( solved by turning off forced AA in the graphics settings. I've disabled AA completely, (it was by default) and the problem persists.
The computer's relevant specs are as follows:
P4 3.4 HT
Radeon 9800SE
1.5GB DDR400
--
Software:
WinXP Pro/SP3
Java 6 Update 32
Catalyst: 10.2, 9.11, 8.12
(I've tried all listed instances of Catalyst and none of them allowed me to change extra settings or got rid of the problem.)
I'd really appreciate some assistance with this so this problem can finally be resolved. My guess is there's something like OpenGL Threading enabled, except there is absolutely no option remotely resembling that in Catalyst, or alternatively AA is on only for Java apps, or something weird. I will also specify that this is a clean installation of Windows XP, Java, and Minecraft, and little else (Opera, Malwarebytes, 7-zip).
Bump. The problem persists. Tried every revision of Catalyst (by .6's) possible. I would hope to disable 'OpenGL Threading' or 'Threaded Optimization,' but neither settings exist in Catalyst.
Well I gave up and switched cards. However if anyone has a 9800SE and got it to work, please let us know how.
Had I not given up due to lack of time (this computer isn't mine, I'm selling it), I was thinking about installing ATi Tray Tool and messing with the settings in there, to see if that would help.
mangaga: maybe download ATT (ATi Tray Tool) and change some advanced settings, could help, who knows.
In a completely different PC, with the same video card, I somehow got no transparent lines from forced AA, but rather I could not run the game in a maximized window, which was the problem I had fixed before somehow.

Yeah this has been happening on my own game as well and I have tried next to everything i can do to attempt at fixing this...
