I've heard of people having this issue but I can't find any fix.
The issue resides in interacting with the world. We're talking flipping levers, opening doors, placing/breaking blocks. It gets incredibly annoying. From what I've found, it isn't a constant problem. I don't know the exact relation but it seems the longer I've played the more likely the problem is to start.
It happens on EVERY view distance, it even does this on tiny, so don't say to decrease it. I have no lag otherwise, it runs very smoothly even on far until I'm changing the state of something, or breaking/placing a block, then it acts like I've clicked twice or held down the mouse button. I've tried every version of OptiFine and it helps a little but doesn't eliminate the problem. And it's an extremely annoying problem. I usually quit for the day when it starts up because it's impossible to build anything. Break a block, ends up breaking two, replace the one you didn't want to break, places an extra one, break the extra one, breaks two, etc. That works with the doors and levers too. I want to open a door and it just closes it right after I do so. And it's even better when it places more blocks. The most I've had is four.
Because we're all just swimming in cash that we can buy a new computer every year.
Seriously. I'm not buying a new computer just because Minecraft does this. I have no issues running WoW, Modern Warfare 3, Portal 2, Madness Returns, so it's kinda stupid to buy a new computer. And like I said, not everyone can afford to get a new computer every time **** stops working properly.
If you are currently using a Razer mouse (and I was a betting man) I bet it's your micro-buttons. They cosntantly break after about 2 years of use. Then they start registering a click upon pressing the button, and a 2nd click upon releasing it.
If it is a different mouse brand it may be the same problem so try switching mice for a few hours to see if the probnlem persists.
Don't have that mouse, and I tried it with the track pad and it still does the same thing so I don't think it's the mouse. And it's only in Minecraft.
I have that same problem sometimes when i right click on things in game but when i would left click on a lever for instance instead of it registering 2 clicks it will only do the first.
I'm getting clear lagspikes whenever I place a block, break a block, use a door, etc. This makes me double place blocks which is is really bad when placing some stuff. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it, to no avail. Here's what it looks like on the lag-o-meter:

How much RAM do you have? Judging from the picture you only have 1GB or 512MB. If so, that could be the problem. It's a good idea to have AT LEAST 2GB
4GB would be the best if you play games other than Minecraft.

I have 2GB but am limiting minecraft to 512mb to avoid paging (as per suggestions from the OptiFine dev). I've tried giving it up to 1.5GB but it makes no difference. I don't get this problem on an old desktop I have despite the desktop getting worse overall performance.
Try changing the sensitivity. That may be the problem. Is it only on creative mode, survival mode or both? if its on survival mode its a problem with the game/computer. If its not on survival mode there is nothing wrong with minecraft or your computer. Also are you playing single player or multiplayer?

Don’t quote me. And Don’t quote me on not wanting to be quoted either.
I am having the same problem, and it might also be to do with chunk loading, because they have to reload every time you do interact with anything, but I installed optifine and turned the "smooth world" option off, that helped a bit. Also, try playing around with optifine settings if you haven't already.
I have been having this issue, and it is very, very annoying. Some of what people have said about the causes might be correct, but a lot of it is not, which I know from my personal attempts to resolve the issue.
1. It is not a problem with the mouse. I replaced my batteries, then my mouse, then my batteries in the new mouse, and have had the problem even with a wired mouse. The mouse does not misbehave in any other application. Both Microsoft and Logitect mouses are screwed up. I feel it a safe bet to say that my Microsoft mouse was not having driver problems on Windows 7 (and yes, it was Windows 7 compatible, it said so right on the box). Resetting the mouse seems to fix the problem briefly (say, for five minutes). My new Logitech mouse has no external buttons other than the two main ones and an up-down scroll wheel (no side-side scrolling). It worked fine for about a month, but then started doing exactly the same thing the old Windows one had done with multi-placing 2-3 blocks at a time.
2. It is not a RAM issue. I have 4GB of RAM, and Minecraft is not lagging until I place a block or destroy one, at which point it lags horrendously for about a half-second and iterates the action two-three times.
3. It is not a Java-is-not-updated issue. I am an amateur programmer as a hobby and keep both my SDK and my JVM completely up to date.
4. It is not an other-applications-open issue. I can reproduce the bug with nothing else open and no one else logged in to my computer. As a footnote, I have administrator priveleges on my computer, though I am unsure that would make any difference.
I hope that this helps someone find a fix for the issue, because it is infuriating to have to restart in order to fix it.
I was having the same problem with it but i figured out the problem all i did was change my mouse and it stoped so all you have to do is buy/use a new mouse.
