Because this happens in single player too and single player has no lag since its local to your machine. Also this occurs in SP in both Linux and Windows on different computers. I suspect its a flaw in one of the GPL libraries but updating them does not fix the problem. It actually might just be a problem in minecraft but the issue is real strange since it does not occur on every system or even when it does occur it oddly just starts happening after a while. Its possible its corruption in the save file but I dunno.

I have been lost in the nether for a few days now.......
It's starting to even look like a triple clicking glitch!
Seriously though, I've been experiencing the same above described double clicking problem and have been shrugging it off for some time now. I've even been able to more or less overcome the problem by positioning my cursor in such a way that after the first block has been placed the cursor is then pointed at the place where the next block should go.
But, starting today, I have been encountering a triple click glitch that is considerably more rage inducing.
okay so here is a compilation of what i got from reading this post,
1. this is a serious problem which makes it had to play the game(i know first hand)
2. idiot who haven't experienced the problem write it off as something lesser
3. there are solutions but they are only iffy and hard to do
4. it isn't hardware
5. it isn't a computer in total
6. it has to be minecraft
7. i don't have a seventh point
8. number seven is a lie because my seventh point was that i didn't have a seventh point
I was a little worried when I found this topic because of how old it was but I just recently started getting this problem. Looks other other people are having it too. It's fairly annoying.
I have a theory I'd like to bounce off you guys. I have played roughly 15-20 worlds, each time I create a huge mine or giant tower/temple/structure, the bigger the structure/mine the worse the problem becomes. When I leave the structure, even just a few paces away I can place blocks with no issues at all. I believe that large structures where substantial amounts of blocks have been placed or removed become glitchy. This problem affects almost anyone with a well developed world who plays on an older computer or laptop with a feeble OS, limited RAM, old or limited video cards, or a heavy amount or adware, bitware, spyware, etc. Before you tell me to change priority settings, change in-game video settings, use 'Game Booster', or defrag my computer, know that I have tried all of that and this problem has not changed. My friend has a custom built system unit with top grade videocards and parts and his minecraft worlds run smoothly despite large structures or being heavily developed. So, my suggestions: 1) Deal with it 2) Buy a very nice(expensive), game oriented computer 3) Buy custom video cards, expand RAM, and devirus, defrag etc. 4) Build small. Three is kind of multiple on one but you get the idea. If your blocks/torches are double placing near large structures or developed parts of your game but you can place blocks in untouched areas without any issues, then this theory might be on the right track. So if this theory checks out with any one else in the community, or not, feedback would be much appreciated.
I've come to the exact same conclusion as Bluenowhere. I'm playing on a pretty crappy computer, so I'm always on "Video Settings: Tiny," unless I'm surveying or exploring. The two times where I've experienced this lag-like, double-clicking phenomenon the most were 1) when I've been digging in and around heavily developed structures, and 2) when I discovered this elaborate system of water and lava tunnels about 50 layers down and tried to build a cobblestone road through it all. (The frustration of that attempt is what drove me to this forum, actually.) When I step out of the pit of death and away from all that "activity" and start laying blocks, the probably instantly disappears.
As several others have noted or implied, this does to seem to be a serious issue, because it's right when your structure starts getting developed that things start looking pretty cool. Pfft.
Still happening in 1.6.6
my specs
3.4ghz quad core
4gb of ram
5850 amd radeon video card
its not hardware related, that I can say for sure.
Would like to be able to play minecraft, currently unplayable due to constantly double clicking, adding extra blocks, etc.
I have the same problem. i get more than one block being placed at once, when i close a door it freezes for a second and then opens back up,i place water and it freezes up for a second and its back in the bucket. i also have a few other lag issues. NOTCH NEEDS TO FIX THIS OR MINECRAFT WILL SOON GO TO ****.

This has happened to me since Alpha and since I was just a little newbie playing Classic. If you've already ruled out everything, it's lag (computer and internet lag alike) and most likely can't be fixed until you have a god computer and internet (and I know how much nerds lie about how their internet is amazing so obviously it can't be that blah blah blah.) Or until Minecraft is downgrades so it doesn't take so much ****in' processing. I can play Morrowind better than this little pixel block game. :sad.gif:
I used to have the same problem. The most common responses (new mouse, clicking differently etc.) didn't work. I'm not an expert on this, but here's what I know:
Minecraft generates 'chunks'from the seed, and saves the differences you make to those chunks, whether it be removing or placing blocks. If the amount of changes in your viewing distance is high, it can start to lag the game when you try and edit it. The game thinks you clicked again in the lag, and places another block to compensate. Here's a couple of possible solutions:
1. Save and quit and go right back into the game. Not sure why, but this sometimes worked for me.
2. If you're rich, get a better computer (lol)
3. Check how much RAM you're allowing Javascript to use. The default setting is often too low, and the game has to redirect to the harddrive, causing the problematic editing lag.
That 3rd one is what worked with me. Lemme know what happens.
Peace \../_<(:sleep.gif:)>_\../
Is anyone ever going to figure out just what the problem with this is? This happens to me out of the blue, randomly. Earlier today, it didn't happen at all. Suddenly, it started doing it. No matter if I restarted the computer or whatever.
I wish someone would look into this and really figure it out.
i have this too. on all computers i use (slow pcs :tongue.gif:) its because of lag when placing new chunk i think. because when i do it outside ( i lag when outside) it does that sometimes but when in cave (faster in cave) it never do that.

My Internet speed is 23.32 MBITS download and 20 upload with 12 Ping from a new york city server, i would show u the pic but 728 x 100 is the max
Btw Vexx32 is AWESOME
Yeah, I didn't have that problem until i got version 1.0.0, and it does this almost always. I'm working on a castle, and it keeps doing this. I'm going to try Trolliwonder's suggestion. my specs are:
Model:Dell Latitude d630
Processor: Dual Core T7500 @2.20ghz 2.20ghz
OS: Windows 7 32- bit
Graphics: 256 mb 965 intel graphics
Ram: 2.50 Gb
This is an extremly annoying problems. Makes minecraft hardly worth playing.
I have read every post, and yes, I do have 32- bit java

How do you change the amount of ram Javascript uses?
I've just been living with this problem for a long time now, and only just decided to try and find a solution because I double right click lagged a bucket to pick up lava and almost killed myself in a hardcore map.
I'm sad to say that I read all the threads about double right clicking in this forum and no one had a reasonable solution. The only people trying to put solutions up seemed to be people just trying to earn forum brownie points by answering questions, because they all suggested broken mice or lag and none of them said they had the problem and solved it too.
I've used probably 4 or 5 different computers, 7-10 different mice, and updated everything that could be updated, downed all the ingame settings, closed all background programs/processes, and don't have any mods and still have this double right click problem.
I'm considering looking into this optifine thing to see what that is, but I'd prefer to solve this without downloading something.
Also, I am pretty sure it's happened to me in non heavily dug/built areas / lots of water/lava, but I've got a recency problem and can only think of terrifying lava-deaths at the moment. So it could just happen in busy areas as someone has already stated, I think in this thread
NO ITS NOT

I'm pretty sure optifine only works for 1.8.1 and down. Maybe they made a new one.
