I wasn't sure where to post this thread, so I posted it here. Move it to appropriate section, mods.
So on singleplayer and multiplayer, worlds render incredibly slow. Infact, it's been doing this since 1.3.
I have tried allocating more ram to Minecraft (I'm not giving it more than one gig, any more than that is stupid and un-needed,)
I tested it with Optifine and vanilla, it does the same thing.
Don't tell me to lower my render distance. I am looking for a great view, not a restricted foggy one.
And yes, my internet is good enough to render a multiplayer world.
Yeah, the world seems to load a bit slower for me, too, however putting "Multi-Core Rendering" on in optifine fixed the problem, but then again I have an 8 core processor. There is no way minecraft should require 8 cores (I don't even know how many cores optifine uses, it might only be 2-4). There are multiple world loading options in optifine, did you try them all?
On a side note, allocating more than 1GB to minecraft is not "pointless". If you're setting off large amounts of TNT, the more RAM, the better. I also found minecraft works much better on 6 GB than 2 GB, just generally.
But then again, every computer is different.
Well yeah, I mean I can see why allocated more than 1 gig can be of use. But for what I do, I don't really need to in all honesty.
If you haven't already, then try these settings and let me know how it works.
In "Video Settings" set chunk loading to "Multi-Core" if you have a processor with more than one core.
In "Video Settings > Performance" set "Chunk updates per frame" up to 5 if you can without lag, that also speeds up loading a bit for me.
I thought I remember that there were more chunk related options, but perhaps not. Playing with worlds on a SSD or fast HDD would also speed things up.
From what I've seen, slow loading is pretty common, even on fast computers.
I'll try that when I get on my main computer. And yeah, with a quick google search everyone seems to have the same issue.
Do you mean when chunks are genorating or re-visiting a place? I think the issue is that its just minecraft being minecraft =) . I tend to find on my laptop the world renders at the same rate i just get a lot less fps with the higher graphic options.
Nah, I mean in general the chunks tend to render slowly, except....
The chunks are no longer rendering slowly, however I still need to get incredibly close to unrendered chunks to render new ones, which is still just as annoying.

Yeah, I have 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Java right now. It still does the same thing.

I found that putting it on smooth renders the fastest for me. Other than that, all highest settings.
