What?
A Sceptre or staff that allows you to control mobs for a short duration
How does it work?
It needs to be enchanted before it can work, and you can only use it once per enchant (You can enchant again after use) The more xp that goes into the enchant governs the mobs that you can control and the duration of that control
For example ghast or creeper would require more xp than for a zombie
You would be able to control any mob that you can see (except endermen) by pointing the sceptre at them and clicking, but it would leave the player prone to attack so you would need to do it from a safe place.
What happens when I control a mob?
The player would be in control of that mob but from a 3rd person perspective, the camera would zoom up to and behind the mob and just above it, the screen edges would be fuzzy or blurry and everything would have a slight hue to it (depending on the mob you are controlling)
You would be able to walk around and do anything that mob can do
What could I use it for?
The possibilities are endless really, The mobs with arms would have a couple of inventory slots, so they could pick up things and return them to you, or lets say while mining you could drop torches on the ground, then control a zombie to pick them up and place them throughout a darked cavern (then have him toss himself into lava)
You could control a skeleton and go exploring a mineshaft and not worry about getting lost or place a torch on those pesky spider spawners
In the nether you could control a ghast to go on a scouting mission to look for a nether fortress (to just to shoot fire at the zombie pigmen below)
You could lead a creeper to a group of mobs and then detonate it.
XP levels required
10 XP levels
Zombie, Skeleton, Spider, Zombie Pigman (30 seconds)
I kinda like this. The recipe should use gold bars instead of sticks just to increase its material cost. I don't feel it is that OP as you have to obtain a bunch of XP to really use it to its best extent. I agree with the aura thing. I am going to wait a little while before I give support or no support.

Those saying it's OP, we could always tweak the stats to make it less efficient, increase the xp cost or restrict the type of mob you can control, even have a limited use before it need to be repaired.
Also perhaps if the mob you are controlling takes damage, the player takes a little damage too?
I'd really like to see this in game, but i feel it should be much more expensive. like it requiring at least 3 emeralds, or more diamond. After all you are controlling another creature. I like the xp idea, i'd forget the player taking damage though. I'd rather run in as me rather then be a weaker zombie, and being killed easier you know? I hope this happens, i'd definitely use it.
This is a really cool concept, but I can't imagine mojang will implement it.
In any case, I support it, though my new-ness likely discredits me. However, I have a few suggestions to make it less overpowered: I agree that endermen cannot be controlled, i don't think you should be able to control creeper detonation, and something as powerful as a ghast should not be controllable for more than 30 seconds.
Like any ranged weapon, there should be a chance you can miss and squander all that valuable xp.
Bosses are unaffected by the sceptre, but if you'd like to attempt it, be my guest at wasting your xp.
Every use will require a base enchant cost of 20 xp and to control ghasts a minimum of 40 - 50 xp.
The gold bar handle is a nice addition, but i think the main jewel of the sceptre should have the rarity of the nether star or ender egg, meaning a new and equally challenging boss should be implemented to acquire a staff of such power. As for what that boss is, I;'' leave that open to suggestion.
That's my two cents.
P.S. the idea of controlling npc mobs is tantalizing in general as they are NON-playable characters, so if this idea is never implemented, I hope mojang at least considers a gamemode in which players can control their favorite hostile mobs and fight against friends online.

technicly, NPC means non player character, not non playable character,

support, btw
this would be fun, iron golems can be a bit more protective now,

An alternate timeline emerges.
However, we must first start from the beginning...
What if the controlled mobs have an aura around them so that other players know it's a controlled mob
seems to...
Not-minecrafty.
but the way you say it,
Not OP.
Can't say if I don't like this or not.

Any other ideas?
You know, one of the examples of what not to post.
You just won't support anything here, will you?
Anyways, I like the idea, but only one use? How about 2-3 uses, depending on the level of enchantment? Semi-support. :/
I scored 100% on the Minecraft Trivia Quiz. How much do you know about Minecraft?
TOPICS I MAKE, Y U NO STAY ALIVE?
No, I won't support things that I feel have flaws that outweigh their benefits, if any.
I've supported a few things, off the top of my head coloured leather and AnonTheMouse's Waybread idea (although I'm not too big on the name).
