Hey there! Been a while since I made a suggestion, even longer since I made a decent suggestion, but here I am. The other day I was thinking of ideas for a new mob, and one of the things I thought would fit perfectly into Minecraft is a snake. But this is Minecraft. It can't just be any snake... It's gotta be a king cobra!
Giant Cobras are hostile mobs that spawn aboveground in Jungle and Desert biomes at night. They're much rarer than other hostile mobs, but significantly more dangerous. They slither around the ground at speeds approximately matching a sprinting player, making them difficult to escape from. You find it, you fight it!
Combat Stats
Giant Cobras have combat stats that scale with difficulty. On all difficulties, they have 15 Hearts (or 30 HP). On Easy mode they deal 4 damage (2 Hearts) with their lightning-quick melee attacks. On Normal mode they deal 4 damage and Poison the player for 2 seconds. In addition, they gain a Ranged attack where they spit a glob of poison at you, poisoning you for 2 seconds if it lands. In Hard mode they deal 6 damage and 4 seconds of poison with their melee attacks and 4 seconds of poison with their Ranged attacks.
Just a bit harder than your average mobs, eh?
Rewards
But of course fighting such a dangerous mob comes with some pretty neat rewards! Giant Cobras drop 0-1 Snake Fangs upon death. A Snake Fang may be collected and brewed with an Awkward Potion to yield a Potion of Antivenom. When a Potion of Antivenom is drunk, the player will gain the Immune buff for the time allotted. As I'm sure you can imagine, the Immune buff protects the player from being poisoned. A Redstone Dust can be added to extend the potion's duration.
Snake Fangs can be used in place of Flint when crafting arrows to yield Poison arrows, which Poison the target for 8 seconds. However, instead of yielding 4 arrows per craft this only yields 2. In addition, Poison arrows cannot be picked up after you fire them, so you better aim carefully.
Giant Cobras also have a rare drop, a Cobra Eye. When brewed into an Awkward Potion, a Cobra Eye yields a Potion of Heat Vision. When you drink a Potion of Heat Vision, nearby mobs emit a red glow that can be seen through walls up to 8 blocks away. Zombies, Zombie Pigmen, Ghasts and Skeletons are undead and give off no heat, and therefore do not give off a glow. Blazes and Magma Cubes are made of fire, and therefore give off a stronger glow, being visible up to 16 blocks away. Creepers, Endermen, Spiders, Cave Spiders, Players, and animals give off a normal glow, being visible up to 8 blocks away.
Redstone Dust can be added to extend the potion's duration, while Glowstone Dust can be added to increase the range that mobs are visible from.
Other
Cobras that spawn in the jungle will have a different skin than Cobras that spawn in the desert. Jungle Cobras will have a forest green skin that blends in with the foliage in the Jungle, while Desert Cobras will have a tan skin to match the desert sand. Otherwise, they are identical.
Tamed cats naturally fear Cobras and will run away when a Cobra is nearby.
So that's about it, thanks for reading! I'd appreciate feedback and stuff. I'll be adding some pictures whenever I get a chance to make and upload them.
I don't feel the attacks are very overpowered, and yes, it's a very rare mob, about a quarter as common as endermen, and only in Jungles and Deserts. Consider that its attacks only deal slightly more damage than a zombie's. I toned the poison damage down a bit though.
I like the antivenom potion idea, but I think the cobra is a bit too op, but anyway good idea Support
Just call it a "Potion of Immunity" and call it a day XD And I'd just refer to it as a "Cobra" to save text space too, king cobras can grow up to almost 19 feet
Mo'Creatures has cobras already BTW, so maybe a version of the model with less cuboids could be used, and probably also big enough to look you in the eye when rearing:

Proud to be a Minecraftian, troper, brony, creature designer, artist, writer, and more!
You could easily avoid it, or fight it off with wooden tools.
I reduced its health to 15 hearts, 25 is just too much.
@SkamorySilver
I did kind of picture it looking like that, except maybe a bit bigger. Like, unrealistically big. As tall as the player when it rears up and maybe 2-3 blocks long? I dunno, I'll screw around with Techne later and see if I can't come up with anything.
its good, but needs some tweaking. i like the idea of more hostile mobs, especially harder ones and biome specific ones. i dont like the drops, though, since they have very few uses and the potions aren't very handy since its not very often you get poisoned, and milk can cure it if needed. the other one, heat vision, also isnt very usefull, since mobs give off sounds you can hear from 16 blocks away.
Per my name, you can probably guess i like this idea. The are only three things i can add too it.
1. Perhaps some way to use fangs to make a poisned sword, or use the fangs as a weapon that deals maybe 1 heart but poisons.
2. For the potion of heat vision, i don't believe ghasts are considered undead mobs (correct me if im wrong) so maybe it should work for them.
3.The snake should have a lower aggro range, as most snakes are ambush predators, it would probably move fast but wouldnm't chase, so you would need to be near it for it to attack.

Minecraft is approximately 1/100 the volume of the sun, and approximately 100 times that of the earth.

Deflecting the attack is a good idea too.

also, they should be able to spawn underground.
