This drives me nuts.
I've made a giant map display of 16X16 maps (I found this on reddit originally). It causes MAJOR framerate issues. Besides, I cannot carry a map display around all the time!
Ever since they made the maps smaller, Everyone stopped using maps. Why? Because you can only see to the end of your render distance.
I can't agree. You can already make maps bigger. Just craft 1 map, surround it by paper 2-3 times and you got pre 1.4 ( I think ) maps.
Correct.
The current map scale has 5 scaling steps, which double each step:
0th step: Original crafted map, 1:1 scaling, useful for detailed areas
1st step: 1:2 scale
2nd step: 1:4 scale
3rd step: 1:8 scale, this is pre-1.4.2
4th step: 1:16 scale, useful for large areas, this is twice the size of pre-1.4.2 maps
If you want a pre-1.4.2 map, you surround it with paper 3 times.
If you expand the map, DO NOT shift click it!! There is a bug where it doesn't affect it at all. It took me a while to figure it out, so I wasted a ton of time "expanding" the map, even though I wasn't doing anything at all.
You can expand a map multiple times by crafting it with eight paper. At its maximum size, I believe it's larger than the old maps. It also functions like the old ones when scaled out, mapping the terrain where you walk.
Guess who's going to be taking down a huge map wall today?

add paper around the map, I think x5 zoom out is the max (u do this 5 times to the same map)
it gets zoomed out
BUT ONLY DO THIS BEFORE U EXPLORE EVERYTHING CAUSE IT WILL MAKE NEW MAP
trust me

[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
