What is this about? Somewhere around Minecraft alpha and beta, they added a switch difficulty button. This has severely altered gameplay. A lot of Minecraft users, including me, can't help but switch to "Peaceful" mode in certain situations. Even though we have hardcore, we do not want our world to be deleted, but we still want a challenge with hostile mobs!
How will this work? Before creating a new world, you will have an option to lock difficulty. Then, it will prompt you to set the a certain difficulty (Peaceful, Easy, Normal, or Hard). Once the world is created, you will no longer be able to switch the difficulty from the one selected before creating the world.
Why do we need this? After playing singleplayer for a few months in Beta, it became to easy, so I moved on to multiplayer, where there is PvP and a locked difficulty. This is the case with most Minecraft users. We want a challenge, without all our hard work being deleted in hardcore! This is defiantly a unnecessary part of Minecraft. Players will experience a lot of fun, building castles, advancing, and defending themselves against zombies. Roleplaying in a world with monsters where they have to thrive, knowing they can't turn off the dangers!
How you can help? There's multiple ways you can help! Mod: If you are a modder, we would greatly appreciated you to make a mod like this. It will help s experience better gameplay, and most likely reach high popularity. Mojang might even add the mod to the game, as they did with a few others mods. Spread the word: Share this post with your friends, social networks, blogs, Minecraft fan sites, etc.! You will be taking part in helping Minecrafters experience better gameplay. Contact Mojang: Tell them about our new idea! Use twitter, email, or any other way you know you can reach mojang. Use this signature! (Better one coming soon)
IMPORTANT: I don't want to lock the difficulty on all worlds. This would be an OPTION before creating a world to lock a certain difficulty.
Thanks for reading! We hope you can make this idea more popular and help Minecraftians in an overall better, challenging, Minecraft experience.
Why should Mojang bother to add this just because you're tempted to change to peaceful when you sees a creeper? You could still cheat by doing open to LAN, enable cheats, /gamemode 1, and just spawning in 500 diamonds. There will always be a way to cheat.

You can only enable cheats before you begin the game. Same goes for /gamemode 1 (Which is cheats). Your right, there will always be a way to cheat, but think about this. You have 3 hearts and a bunch of valuable goods, but creeper is right next to you.
Using locked difficulty, you will not have enough time to open an inventory editor or anything like that.
Without locked difficulty, most people would press ESC, switch to peaceful, and then have a feeling they cheated.
I'm not saying everyone would do that, but this would be a great edition for Minecraft and help a lot of Minecraft players.
I'm sorry. I agree that this is pointless. There are hundreds of possible concepts that would take priority over this one, and even then, all you're doing is playing on single player. If you want to stop yourself from changing the difficulty, try joining a hardcore server. It's a really really easy fix.
As for your time on singleplayer, just muster a little more willpower. Now, having a score system that lowers when you change the difficulty and records when you change the difficulty might actually make sense, but not something that locks it. That fix to your problem upsets more players than it helps.
Maybe we can add an option disable LAN too before creating the world.
I remember in the beta days I didn't know how to cheat, and didn't know anything about MInecraft. Those where the best days of Minecraft I ever had.

Ugh. Just develop some willpower. Mojang should not be asked to compensate for your lack of willpower.

No. You're just digging deeper into the can of worms. You should be allowed to cut off LAN connection whenever you want. Again, thee is no need to limit options just because you're tempted to cheat. Either don't cheat or get over the fact that you hate a challenge and always play on peaceful.

I never mentioned "Cut off", but instead, choose an option to disable lan. Plus, the whole point of this is a challenge. Where did I mention I always play on peaceful?
You didn't, but you say that when you're about to die you switch to peaceful, so I'm saying that you should just accept the fact that you don't a challenge and just play on peaceful anyway, since you'll just revert to it if things get rough.

Why did they make hardcore if you can cheat? Following your logic, you can just take a "challenge" and delete your world without the need for hardcore.
How in the world did I not see in the OP that it's supposed to be an option to lock difficulty, not you suggesting that difficulty always be locked...
Fine, sure. Not gonna support or argue since I really don't care one way or another if it's just another little on/off option. I wouldn't use it, but I see no harm in it.
You get tempted? No... I get tempted! Anyway,
Let's say this is me creating a world
I can choose from creative, hardcore, and survival.
under that I can choose what difficulty: Peaceful, easy, normal, or hard Under THAT is a box that says "Lock difficulty?"
If locked, it can only be changed with /difficulty

Isn't it weird thatpalindrome is emordnilap backwards?
If you don't want to change the difficulty, don't change the difficulty. I can't think of a reason not to add this, but I can't really think of any for it either.
I would like to have this because of the following: I sometimes forget im on peacefullmode when i go back into my world and all my hostile mobs with items are removed.

You play Hypixel? You know, when loaded in peaceful it says "World loaded in peaceful, please redownload the world"

Not if you enable LAN, that what he's saying.
