Recently I have been interested in things like Bumpmapping and Parallax Occlusion. They add a new dimension to the game, and they look very cool when done right. A few texture packs have already set up these things, but they are only compatible with GLSL Shaders, which are difficult to set up in their own right.
My suggestion is to include these in vanilla minecraft. They would be a lot easier to use, and a lot easier to set up. Under options, in the Video Settings tab, There could be a simple option for Bumbmapping. There could either be a simple on/off switch, or a slider changing the depth. The bumbmapping format could stay the same, for just as the mod works, it work the same in the actual game.
If you have anything to add, reply! I am open to all feedback and suggestions.
Bump mapping is a technique in computer graphics for simulating bumps and wrinkles on the surface of an object

...what? Why is this needed? Why would this be useful? I don't see any use for this in vanilla, and frankly I see little reason why this would even be present in shaders. Rendering bumps and wrinkles...that's just a bit excessively silly for a game based on cubes and sprites, don't you think?
That sounds real awesome and all, but there's one slight problem: this is Minecraft. A game where the world is detailed in 16x16 pixel textures. A game where simple blocks are slapped together to resemble any living entity. Bumpmaps are cool for your Black Ops 2 and your Assassin's Creed, but not for a game with a such a simple-based art design.
