very basic idea. Adding a chest you can find in the nether fortress that contains enough obsidion to build a new portal with flint and steel just in case a ghast breaks your portal
also im not sure if a ghast can completly damage a portal(like break obsidion)if they can't then there would just be a flint and steel in the chest.
really i didnt know tha but it seems a bit comlplicated to pull off (i was half aware of the portal not completely breaking just wanted it confermed ) maybe have some of the mob drop flint and iron ingot would also be nice too.
Secondly, Mojang shouldn't change their game because you're too big of a noob. You don't even know for sure if ghasts can break obsidian but you automatically assume so. They can't. They can however, cause it to deactivate. In that case just have them fire again at it and it will activate again. Problem solved. Or you can make a fire charge.

Okay first sorry about the misspellig the forums don't have an auto correct( at least for me)and im trying my best to spell correctly
Second its not so much for me I do take a moment to bring spare mateirials for spare portal in case i get lost but it would be for people who don't think that far ahead.
Third I was working on other solution to the problem.Basiclly have a mob that can drop an iron ingot and since gravel spawn in the nether
you would have the flint.
Forth like i mention in my second post i wasn't positive on wether a ghast could fully break a portal and i just wanted to be sure. So you don't need to jump down my throut over my thought process.
You should really be carrying a flint and steel when you head into the nether. It's just good safety practice.

Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.

People who don't have a backup plan shouldn't be in the nether. There are actually 3 ways to escape: Crafting fire charges, having flint and steel/fire charges with you or let a ghast reactivate it again, it's not that hard. And if you want a mob that drops iron then go on and suggest one.

Agreed with what everyone else has said so far. If someone doesn't have the forethought to bring a Flint and Steel or to immediately start building a safety room around their portal with Cobblestone, it's their loss. Ghast Fireballs won't break Cobblestone or better, so it's typically good practice to build a portal room out of it, as well as paths around the Nether, as it is explosion resistant. That also fixes the problem of people getting lost.
If you absolutely HAVE to get off your main path, A simple 3 block structure of Cobblestone can always point you in the right direction. You just make a 2 block high pillar, and then put the third Cobblestone on whatever side points back to the path or your previous marker. I like how the Nether/End is really the only place where you need some kind of forethought to thrive there. Please don't take that away.

I've never been trapped in the nether, ever. as long as you bring flint and steel you're fine. and if you dont want to carry it with you elsewhere in the nether you can leave it in a chest near your portal, which should also be fortified so ghasts cant shoot it.
also im not sure if a ghast can completly damage a portal(like break obsidion)if they can't then there would just be a flint and steel in the chest.
feedback would be nice thank you.
