When powered by redstone, chests should display the opening animation, and play the sound. This would be purely decorative, but could be cool for adventure maps. When an open chest loses it's supply of power, it will close and play the closing sound.
Actually, I just had an awesome idea. An iron chest that can only be accessed when it is opened, and can only be opened with redstone, like your idea. Would be pretty cool for adventure maps, although it can kind of already be done with sticky pistons and a block above the chest. Still, I think this would add more justification for adding in your feature.
