It's probably really late to be posting this, but I don't care. I'm not going to watch a perfectly good game get wrecked for absolutely no reason at all.
So what are we talking about you say? Well, we are talking about one of the biggest mistakes Minecraft developers are about to make with the Enchantment and Experience changes. Some may say "aww yea now it'll be so much easier to get great enchantment's the game's gonna be so much better" but in reality we are facing imminent disaster, minecrafteers. The new changes are not only going to completely destroy the difficulty in minecraft, but will take away its only sense of aftergame direction(if you consider the dragon the endlolol of the game).
Observe the new system first. The new system of experience allows smelting(1 exp) any item and mining any block that is non-refundable(0-7 depending) excluding stone give experience. To reach the maximum enchantment level and thus the strongest equipment you require 825 exp, which is the equivalent of smelting 825 cobblestone, or the fighting alternative of 165 monsters.
Let's face it people, this is easy as ****. Pre 12a23w or whatever that **** is called, you needed to kill 925 monsters or whatever the hell it is to reach level 50, and there was no getting around this. you find a dungeon, and grind that ****, giving dungeons a PURPOSE, which by the way it barely has now that you made it so i can dig a straight line for 10 minutes and have an efficiency 4 unbreaking 3 pick which i can easily use to grind another 4 of those pickaxes within the hour while getting all the materials i'll ever need to build an ivory tower out of iron(yes, that makes sense).
Enchantments are those things where you work for hours and hours to get a chance at getting that piece of equipment that is going to make your life so much easier and your character that much better. A Protection IV Diamond Chestplate is the one thing that even after you go to the nether and back, even after you kick the dragon's ass and come back to the overworld to make yourself a nice sword and pickaxe, you are still so far away from getting and is invaluable to every minecraft player because of how hard you are to bring down with it on. A Fortune III Diamond Pickaxe is the dream pickaxe of every miner and every night that person goes to sleep, they dream of a diamond ore dropping 2, 3, even 4 diamonds at a time and yell "I'M RICH!!". But... if you make gaining experience child's play like it is in these new snapshots, even village idiots will be throwing around Power V bows hitting for 11 hearts because of how much of a joke it is to get them. And half the bookshelves, really? You'll make it impossible for someone to not have an enchantment table with full power before reaching stupid level 30. To have 3 max level enchantment diamond tools and level IV armor means to have seriously gone through a lot of **** and really conquered the game itself; and as such, you are a powerhouse... but not if you implement this change.
I'm not saying the idea behind adding experience to smelting and mining is bad, but there is no balance in the work done. People need to be rewarded for difficulty, not just time, and things like monster spawners have been the main source of players' experience for a long time. They are difficult to find and even more difficult to protect, and deserve to be the best way to gain experience because of their nature and place in minecraft. Smelting only requires putting in items, which is literally 0 work and the only possible difficulty can be protecting your furnaces, and in order to get the correct materials you mine straight lines, which is also low risk. On top of this, the materials needed are common(lolstone) so you waste little time.
The solution is simple: bring back the old exp scaling. This makes it so you must smelt and mine a great deal before the exp stacks up enough to be a top level enchantment, while still keeping the current values of experience for smelting and mining. This will restabilize monster killing as the most efficient way of getting experience while still being the most dangerous, and will make it so peaceful players can still obtain high level equipment with enough work. But keep the thing where 30 bookshelves always gives 50, cause the alternative is seriously a waste of time. Let's throw random dice in there for no reason at all!!!
Please comment and make this thread big, whoever's in charge needs to see this before it's too late.

Erm, no. Enchanting was intentionally changed to avoid the grinding to level 50 which wasn't much of an achievement at all when you got Unbreaking 3. If the enchanting system was different, and you could actually pick your enchantments, then I'd agree with a 50 cap and slow leveling. But the enchantment system is so random, that having to get to 50 to get anything decent is just flat-out ridiculous.

And again, top level enchantments are as difficult as they are and SHOULD be because of how good they are. I refuse to believe even a single person would think "Mine 10 minutes get Fortune III" is even remotely balanced for sacrifice-reward.
By the way, how do you make a house out of iron? By... what's that again...? GRINDING IRON?!?1 no way o-o

I don't think you understand. If you change the exp system, everyone will have ridiculous amounts of enchants and just beat hardcore like it's nothing. They're going to meet up with the ender dragon and screw it over like it's nothing.
Not only that, any single newb in a pvp server will be able to get SHITLOADS of diamond enchanted crap, and it's just gonna be mindless w+m1.
Enchantments, as Blinzer said, are supposed to be something hard to get, or well-deserved.
Not only that, hardcore pvp servers with factions will have so many more newbs, and it's not going to be about who's a better player, but who can gather the most mindless players to kill ****, no strategy involved.

A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.
I agree with u Blinzer, Even thoguh it would be kick ass to have all those things think about compittion i mean u could be geting ur ass wooped day and night beccause of ppl with op gear, And ive already spent hours enchanting my ****. Anyways Minecraft is making a hudge ass mistake Because it will seriously ruin the game, ppl won't have fun anymore because the people with gear already, wont give anyone else a chance to play thefore enchanting should stay the same because of unfair gameplay, even though it sounds cool when u start playing u will agree it is a horible mistake if they continue with the plan. I will give jeb or whoever credit for a good idea but in reality it is a bad descion

You mean hard earned as in building a mob grinder and lagging out a server for half an hour while you sit there and gather orbs? PvP is already problematic, where the already well established have a clear meathmatical advantage, and the resources to quickly replace any lost gear. Its like being a new guy in Diablo 2 and forgetting to set your game to private, then have Whirlwind barb jump in, wipe out all the monster, kill you a few times, and mock you before getting bored.
The new system is simply cutting out all the bulls**t start up costs that everyone with a mob grinder would be getting anyway, and at the same time opening it up for everyone else.
Seeing how this thread took about 30 seconds to derail into a flamewar and grammar nazi posts, I'm locking this. The OP can feel free to make this thread again after 24 hours, and that one will remain as long as everyone plays nice.
