I would love to see this added to the game, I mean why not have a flat or flat-ish layer of it? it acts and a world limit, and the way it generates now, you can fall into places and it is difficult to get out. Building is a pain at the lower levels, and generally it looks terrible.
Thoughts?

agreed, i got stuck in a 1X2 hole and had nothing to get myself out. so i went back to retrieve my diamond stuff, but it had moved under a piece of bedrock and i couldn't get it... and to the "Earth's bedrock in't flat" guy, WHEN DOES MINECRAFT HAVE ANY REALISM IN IT LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
There's a mod for this: http://www.minecraft...-bedrock-layer/
And the bedrock in minecraft is uneven because Notch made the game like that. If you don't like it, you have this mod
haha the mod inspired this, and I would even suggest an uneven 1-2 or 1-3 layer but 1-5 means you get stuck at times, and it makes it hard to mine ores in between, build things and just looks ugly!

It actually forms in sheets, not an ugly splattered mess. It might slope down to different elevations, but this is not desirable as a bottom boundary to the world.
It IS a scary thought to be trapped in between 2 block high bedrocks and have no materials to get yourself out...Rare, but might be possible if bedrock s are generated like this.
Completely flat is too boring. It should form in smooth hills (constrained to bedrock's current height limits,) like a proper terrain generator.

even if it was random and only 1-2 or 1-3 layers it would look more realistic and hopefully not be as bad with the random blocks

It has to be pseudo-random or else you will end up with floating bedrock or bedrock towers. If you avoid transitions of more than one block of depth at a time you ensure that the player cannot get stuck and that you have a pleasant surface to work with.
