Overview
Based on the "Sky Dimension" mentioned by Mojang. The "Haven" Dimension is pretty much the opposite of The Nether, meaning that The Haven is a peaceful place unlike the latter which is darker and more hostile. The Haven is made up of floating islands in the middle of an infinite nebular void, and falling into the void will just teleport you back to The Overworld. The Haven has original resources, and also derives many elements and mobs from other dimensions including The Overworld, such as dirt, sand, trees, stone, etc. Although this dimension is less hostile than any other, it can still be quite deadly depending on your actions. Fire and lava can't exist or be placed here, but furnaces can still be used.
How to Get to The Haven
Information not yet available...
Appearance
The main colors seen (but not limited to) are blue, purple and white. Some of the resources that grow from the ground are usually strangely shaped. All trees here have a pale-blue-purple type of wood named Clodwood, and grow in the same way as they do in The Overworld, although some trees can grow to be insanely tall and without leaves - even right after bonemeal is applied to their saplings. Trees here can also have multiple bunches of branches instead of just one. Some of the islands are made entirely of Ruinsand rather than just dirt or stone.
Day and night cycles do somewhat exist here, but The Haven only has one "sun" - a white glowing orb that doesn't seem to emit as much light as it would look. This is the only sky light source in this dimension, there is no "moon". The "night" cycles aren't very dark and don't impair the player's vision.
Resources
Eveshade Grass
Exact same properties of normal grass, but will grow any planted crops at double speed.
Clodwood
Exact same properties of normal wooden logs, but may have the ability to create purple wooden planks which are not flammable (both in log and plank form). The sapling sprite was made by TheBlueRocky.
Ruinstone and Ruinsand
Both blocks have the ability to make any player or mob walk slightly faster, being the opposite of soul sand, but the Ruinstone does not react to gravity and can be made into pressure plates and slabs.
Whitestone
Acts the same as normal stone but breaks +15% faster and has x1.5 blast resistance. Can be used to make Whitestone stairs and slabs, if you find it visually pleasing.
Meraude Ore & Ingot
Meraude Ore has the appearance rarity between iron and gold, but can sometimes appear in plain sight above ground. When smelted into ingot form, it can be used to make tools. Armor can't be made with these.
Meraude Tools work in the same manner as any other, but is able to mine blocks very fast if it's generated in The Haven. Meraude Tools mine just like iron ones if the player tries to mine a block that's NOT from The Haven, and will cost 1.5 uses if used that way, making enchantments on these tools much more effective. Meraude hoes have only 20 uses, but will double the speed of growth on any crop planted that the Meraude hoe tilled - this can be done in The Overworld too. Meraude Swords do +2 damage to any mob that's simply in The Haven, but just does iron-sword damage otherwise while draining durability by 1.5 instead of 1, like the other Meraude Tools.
Cracked Whitestone
Acts the same as normal stone, but is 50% weaker. Using proper tools will destroy it completely, it won't be available to be picked up in survival mode unless the Silk Touch enchantment is used. When destroyed, these blocks will have a 10% chance to spawn a Flutter mob. Stairs and slabs can't be made with this, if collected with Silk Touch.
Pink Mushroom, Trolyp, Glowwart, Blue Mushroom
The Pink Mushroom can be combined with bonemeal to make pink dye, or it can be used in brewing to add 1:00 to a potions duration (can only work once for each potion). The Trolyp flower can be turned into light blue dye. The Glowwart is a mushroom that can glow and dim at random - this can be combined with glowstone to make an infinate duraction medium-level light that is guaranteed to attract Flutters, or the Glowwart can be used to create a "see in the dark" effect when added to an Awkward Potion. The Blue Mushroom has the exact same properties of a red one, but can also be used to create a Eerie Potion when brewed with a water bottle.
Nightstalk
These are the sugar canes of The Haven, when collected, each unit of Nightstalk can be turned into Nightdust, see below:
Nightdust
Nightdust can be used in two ways. The first use is placing the dust on the ground in the same manner of redstone dust, but when the Nightdust "wire" is activated by a lever/button/etc, the dust trail will emit a low-level blue light, and will make a tick sound and flash white when any creature touches the trail, acting as a sensor. The second use is to brew it with a water bottle and make a Silent Potion.
Watcher Skin
Has a 25% chance to drop from a killed Watcher. It can be eaten, which will give the player the ability to diminish hunger much, much slower for 7 minutes. This effect still plays out even if your hunger is poisoned.
Glintfire - Idea is from SnowConez
Glintfires occur randomly by appearing and disappearing. Standing in them will slowly replenish a player's health, even if the hunger bar is fully depleted. Take note that these can heal mobs as well.
Sometimes the Glintfire will "snake" around the land for a short time before fully vanishing. It produces a calming but eerie humming sound. Unlike normal fire which rises into small particles, Glintfire rises into large "globs" and animates a bit slower.
Mobs
Most of the Overworld Mobs can spawn in The Haven as well: Sheep, Pigs, Cows and Chickens
Watcher
They aimlessly patrol The Haven and make unnatural breathing sounds. They are neutral to the player unless provoked. If a Watcher is provoked, it may prove to be a tough battle as Watchers have a lot of health and can knock the player back quite a distance. When attacking, he will either punch in close-combat, or he will stand still while shaking and attempt to do a distance telekinetic hit. If any other Watchers are nearby, they will stand still and observe the battle between the player and the provoked Watcher, living up to their names. Watchers drop 0-1 Watcher Skin when killed. They will teleport back to an island if they fall in the void.
Slumber
Something that's both a mob and a red organic block. As the name suggests, Slumbers will sleep soundly unless they're touched or hit by mobs and players alike. A Meraude Pickaxe is needed to detach a Slumber from it's place, after that can you take it for yourself and use it as a trap for mobs, as mobs will be focused on the Slumber if they get hurt by it. A Slumber will hurt you if you hit it at melee range, no matter what. You can disturb a Slumber unharmed if you hit it with an arrow at a distance. When a Slumber awakens, it's eyes and mouth will open for a second, giving off light.
Flutter
As mentioned before, Flutters can be found in Cracked Stone blocks. Occasionally, Flutters can spawn in the open as well. These mobs are small and have quite a lot of speed, and can be tedious to hit due to their jerky flight patterns. 90% of Flutters that spawn are neutral to players, unless hit.
Flutters have a blue body and white eyes when neutral, and have a red body and angry yellow eyes when provoked and angry. They will only hit you as many times as you hit it, then will go back to "neutral mode" afterwards. There's a 10% chance that a Flutter will spawn permanently angry and attack the player on sight. Upon death, they will drop 0-1 Flutter Wings, which can be used in brewing, or can be eaten to slow a player's fall speed for 25 seconds.
Ghost
This mob will obviously be transparent, and was originally planned to be in an Overworld mod, but I'm posting it here anyway as it's still somewhat interesting. Ghosts will only appear in player-made caverns, and only have a 10% chance to spawn in them anyway. Ghosts cannot harm the player, but can still manage to push a player into some hazards. This mob emits the most frightening sounds. Ghosts only take damage with Meraude Swords, and will drop 0-1 globs of Ectoplasm on "death". Note that ghosts can vanish at will, and can stalk other mobs as well as the player. Any other mob from The Haven will attempt to avoid ghosts.
I appreciate the work you did on this, but this seems a lot like the Aether mod, which in turn came from a suggestion on the forums. A lot of the properties are the same (can't use lava, one extra ore, floating islands, a relaxed day/night cycle, new trees, sand that makes you faster), but your mob ideas are pretty unique. I'd recommend trying to develop this suggestion into something that's distinct from the other suggested sky dimension, the aether.
all of your pictures and sprites seem to just be sompthing like a texture pack
watchers looking like zombies, slumbers like slimes and the fact that theres tall grass and the trees are normal sized it looks like youve just made the world 70% mor purple
but its a really cool idea and i would like to see this in minecraft even if its a mod.
i just hope that it doesnt turn out like the aether as in how the aether just became a really over used mod and now i dislike it because every one was using it and talking about it. though at first i thought it would be cool

I can see you have put alot of work into this, however, all you seem to have done is emulate the overworld into a new dimension with more mushrooms and different logs.
I thought that meme died a while ago. You didn't have to quote an entire long post just to say that "you're disappoint". This is a mod in the works, and there's more to it than what you see in the image and more than you assume. It's usually a good idea to wait for more detail before you allow yourself to be disappointed. In short, what you said is wrong.
It's nice, but to me it really doesn't seem all that distinct from the Aether. Just dimmer and possibly a little less interesting. What both the Aether (don't get me wrong, it's fun) and this idea seem to miss is just what made the Nether so different. It wasn't just the alien-ness of the dimension, it was the access to things that aren't available anywhere else. Ever-burning rocks, sand that slows movement, the base for all potions, a stone that gives off constant light...and the ability to travel vast distances quickly. While both suggestions have a bit of this, they fail to properly capture that uniqueness. Instead, we get a basic "speedup sand", recoloured overworld materials, and "forspecial tools". The Aether comes closer to the Nether's intent in this regard, since the different harvestable cloudstuffs and coldstone give it a more varied base of unique resources. It's main flaw, if anything, comes from trying to do too much.
This on the other hand, doesn't do enough. Only one of the blocks is truly unique, and most of the resources are redundant. The Watcher seems interesting, but not all that worthwhile. The Slumber, by contrast, is an overpowered mob trap disguised as a hazard. I would like to see a rework, or a new idea, that makes an "anti-nether" that lives up to what the nether is.
A reason to travel through it. (The Nether has covering distances covered, so perhaps terrain is more navigable, due to openness and reduced gravity?)
Completely unique resources. (The speed-sand thing is what everyone thinks of, but all of the blocks should be special. Properties like radiating cold would be good here, and useful.)
Interesting mobs that introduce new combat strategies. (You are actually on the right track here, but a "mob" that is only technically a mob, and more of an indestructable, exploitable terrain hazard, isn't adding to the game.)

Think of when the nether was released, it doesnt strive to be another world for the player to live in, it is just fiery hole. YOu new dimension doesn't need a slight variation on every item in the game.
Wait, you're a modder? That's cool, could you post a vid of the mod in action? I would really like to see it! :tongue.gif:
I'll post one when the mod is a bit more developed and we've got the time. Me and the other 4 working on this all go to the same engineering college which is an extremely stressful and hard school. We're in the middle of redoing the tree generation code and at the same time, pondering if we'll soon drop this mod due to lack of public interest.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.

My thread has a lot of public interest, you could always work on some dimensions concepts over there
Though I should warn you, we are still in the planning phase of the thread. There is a buttload of things that need to be worked out, but I believe it has potential. It wouldn't hurt to have some people with coding experience help out in the thread.
And we could always refine and implement some of these ideas, if you and you team are willing.
This is so cool and eerie. Even though it doesn't fit completely with the minecraft me imho, I would love to see a mod made of this, with new creepy ambient sounds. to you
