You've tried everything.
You've tried sand traps, drowning traps, Dispenser arrow traps, but nothing can keep those darn enemies away! Not to worry!
~Part one, the electrical block~
The electrical block would be crafted like this:
~Part two, appearance~
When you have it, it would look like the gold block, but would have iron squares in the middle on each side.
~Part three, uses~
When activated by machinery (Levers, pressure plates, either connected to redstone or alone, etc.), Right clicked,
It would provide the same light level of torches, blink yellow and blue, little electrical bolt GUIs (Like the puffs from the nether portal) would hover above it. After turned off, it would stay on for x.5 as long as it was on for until turning off.
If a mob or the player touched it, the would jump into the air, flash black and yellow, start smoking, then fall back down.
This would do 3 hearts of damage.
~Part four, properties~
When activated, the electrical block would take 2 seconds, then spread the electrical property to iron blocks, which would then activate other ones around it. Iron doors would NOT get electrical.
The iron blocks that do not directly touch the electrical block will have temporary electricity.
If this is too confusing, look at this.
= Electrical block
= Iron block ( Charged )
= Iron block ( Temporarily charged )

~Suggested use~
1.If in some ironic situation, you have alot of gold and iron, but no torches, and still have a few levers, you could use these to provide light!
2.
Make a 3x7x3 pit with an iron door in one of the walls at the bottom.
Make the floor 3x1x3 out of iron, with an electrical block right in the middle, with a lever on it.
When mobs fall in, click the lever to farm them. Then click the lever, and collect your spoils!
I think that would be pretty cool! Another thing to add could be locked chests. It could be opened by being the owner, having a keyépasscode, or something like that. It can be made like a chest with an iron bar as a lock.

You, good sir, are a genius.
On the topic of chests,
Don't you hate when Creepers blow up your chests filled with precious diamond that you didn't cheat in, and spent days looking for?
I propose :
The defense chest!
Made as so:
(The better then ingot or ore, the stronger the chest!)
[]
It would be a silver chest, but the unique thing is that the chest has durability.
If a skeleton shoots an arrow at it, zombie attacks it, spider pounces it, or Creeper attempts to blow it up, it takes damage, but does not lose it's contents until the durability wears out, where it then becomes a chest that is the next rank down to it.
As so:
Durability wears out goes to . Durability wears out goes to .
durability wears out goes to . wears out goes to normal chest.

And you sir, need to use the damn search bar.
The electrical block sounds dumb. Seriously. JUMP in the air, and START flashing/smoking. When it comes back down, it deals 3 damage.
How?
As long as you look at it?
As long as you activated it?
Everything on the redstone?

I think this idea can be simplified. Make an electric fence that does 1/2 heart of damage everytime it touches a mob. I don't think a singular electric block would be realistic enough, although it is a good idea. Don't ask me how to craft a fence or how the red would connect to it. I don't know really.

It seems a bit overpowered, so post suggestions!

It's not so much as a jump, as a hop in the air.
And you get damaged from touching it, braniac.
