Don't you hate it when you're riding a minecart a long distance, and an animal gets on the tracks? The minecart hits the animal, but the animal doesn't move at all. Instead, the minecart stops suddenly, and then starts slowly moving backwards. You get out to push the minecart back in the direction you want to go, and then ideally you do push it and start going again. If you're unlucky, however, one of two things can happen. The same or another animal could get in the way and the same thing happens, or worse: the animal gets in the minecart, which then hits a booster, sending it all the way back the other way (since an minecart with an animal in it goes as fast as one with a player in it.)
Wouldn't it make more sense if the animal is hurt and pushed out of the way? Think of the animal being hit by a car. The minecart should slow down, but at least keep going forward. And if the animal is a chicken, the minecart should hardly slow down at all, and the chicken should die instantly. What do you think?

Not a bad idea, but if animals are frequently walking on your tracks you could also try putting a fence along side it.
But really, I hink they should, in addition to getting pushed aside, take damage proportional to your speed, so a minecart going downhill would knock them aside and hurt them, but a powered minecart would probably do enough damage to kill them.

You relize that powered minecarts go so slow that they can't go up hills, right?

They seemed pretty fast to me, once I put some coal in there...

You have a good point though.
YES. These things you described, I hate them with a passion.
This needs to happen. I support this entirely.

I would love to see a fast minecart catapault the cows it hits without slowing down.
Good idea

I totally support this idea!
Maybe when you hit animals, they would flip far far away?
