Hey i had an idea ive been thinking about for a long time decided to share it with you all. I also sent an email to jeb and mentioned my idea and he gave me a brief response which is cool.
Heres the email i sent him a few days ago.
Dear Mr. Bergensten
I am a huge Minecraft fan(been playing since alpha), and i just wanted to thank you for your work on Minecraft and wanted to wish you good luck as the new lead designer. As an aspiring game developer myself, following the development of Minecraft has been fascinating. You and notch are really my role models. I hope to be able to become an indie developer myself someday and you guys at Mojang have shown it is possible to be successfull, its really quite inspiring honestly.
I also had one idea i wanted to share with you that i think could add a new dynamic to Minecraft however still compliment core gameplay. I was thinking it could be fun to add a sort of cyclically occuring event in which the players base would come under siege and be challenged with defending an object or npc such as a cake or NPC village. It could come once a month in game days or once a week. Each day closer to the event the moon could get a bit redder. It would challenge the player to build traps and immerse themselves in a new type of strategic gameplay that has not yet been present in Minecraft before. To really pull this off a few new mobs would probably need to be added, Such as mobs somehow create a bridge over gaps perhaps by sacrificing themselves there body turns into blocks on which other mobs can walk or maybe endermen would just put down blocks. This would be necessary just so defense wouldnt only needs to consist of a deep moat. Additionally some temporary nether portals could open and nether mobs could come out. Followed perhaps by a boss wave or boss mob and than some sort of a reward for successfully defeating the onslaught. It would add a new aspect to survival gameplay, and if the player could place the object which he is challenged to defend or just choose the location of the defense area than any risk to creations the player cares about would be averted.
Sincerely
Sean Halnon

Its pretty cool he actually read my email.
But what do you guys think of my idea?
EDIT:
just read about a new game Epic Games is producing inspired by minecraft that focuses on building and defending a base against enemies which come out at night. The developer openly said that the game was inspired by minecraft.
heres the link to the article
I was thinking it could be like you have somne kind of an item you place to mark the point you want to defend. Or maybe it could be exclusively defending mob villages and you destroy some mystical defense item that has protected their village so far. Thus allowing for siege cycle to begin.
Perhaps winning could mean getting an item that would do something in conjunction with the dragon egg.
I also hope that this idea get implemented somehow.
As i started playing minecraft i builded my first house and always tried to secure it against such a siege.
So u find a butten in the middle of my house that secures every entrence and open traps on some positions around the house :smile.gif:. But at the moment its a little bit pointless because no mob tried to get into my house exept im close to it and its following me.
Also Zombie Siege is a feature Notch wanted to implement into minecraft. But he sayed that it will become implemented after the Final release. So the time has come! :smile.gif:
Exactly.
Red stone could be SOOO much fun to use to make traps, and there are tons of great traps possibilities however they are all useless because currently all you need to do to be safe is dig a 3 block deep hole and put a block above you, theres nothing that gives you any reason to take any more advanced safety measures. Although some people make traps for players on multiplayer servers those are usually unnecessary becuase you can lock your chest and its easy for another player to just destroy/dig through your trap.
Theres obviously aesthetic reasons to build a bigger house but aesthetic possibilities in minecraft tend to get old if youve been playing it since alpha like me.
So we need a siege mode and atleast 3 more mobs.
1 that flies,
1 that can place blocks to get across gaps
1 that can dig through material
And the more mobs there are with more diverse abilities the more possibilities in strategy that would of practically use(and thus more fun).
it would also be good if there were different types/levels of each kind. Like wave 1 could have just basic zombie mobs by wave 5 you could be seeing all the mobs and by wave 10 you could be seeing the strongest type of zombie, flying mob and others to defend against.

I think this affirms that my idea is a good one.
Nice suggestion, won't be in game for a long time.
Loving the idea! :biggrin.gif:

Check out the edit in my OP. Quite amusing.
