For a long time, I've looked at Steak and Bread together and thought, 'hey, I want to make a sandwich.' Unfortunately, that isn't a feature in vanilla minecraft, so i had to resort to Pam's HarvestCraft (a mod) to get sandwichy goodness in my minecraft experience.
The thing that bugs me is that it's such a simple food and would go well with the vanilla minecraft experience. Sandwiches are simple, easy to prepare, and are quite delicious, if you make it the way you like it.
So, my proposition is this: Add semi-customizable sandwiches to vanilla minecraft. Now, I'm NOT saying "add a million and one varieties of peanut butter and jelly" because of how many kinds of jelly/___nut butter there is. To keep the vanilla minecraft feel, I suggest only adding, other than sandwiches, Cheese.
I mean, cheese isn't too bad, right? We already have buckets of milk, adding cheese wouldn't be too hard of a logical leap.
Now, I can probably guess what you're thinking. "But Steak/cooked mutton/cooked porkchop is already such a good food! What good would making it into a sandwich do?" Well, it would provide more saturation, and restore 7 whole shanks in the hunger meter, so that you can munch on a sandwich as soon as you run out of sprinting power, and go right back up to full hunger, which is a functionality missing from the game for a good while.
Now, I don't have any sprites or drawings to share of what these hypothetical sandwiches would look like, but the gist is;
Bread
Meat
Cheese
Bread
from a top-down perspective, but can still see the cheese and meat inside the sandwich. This way, you can easily tell what the sandwich contains (in case you're picky like that) and just to differentiate the sandwiches in general. It also wouldn't make sense for a pork sandwich to look like it has steak in it.
Also, for the crafting recipe, it would be
Bread emptyspace emptyspace
Meat emptyspace Cheese
emptyspace emptyspace Bread
Since crafting tables are only 3x3, diagonal recipes allow for the sandwich recipe to have 4 things in a logical pattern. Plus, i imagine the sandwich sprite looking a bit diagonal too.
I don't see a good reason to add this, you're taking time to make these sandwich sprites when you can just cram one of the ingredients in your square mouth over and over from the start and fill your hunger all the same. I don't see how this adds anything new.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

So, what do you think? Sandwiches? Or no?
Yeah, about that...
