Okay, so I feel like it is weird that there are only like two dead threads with this idea. So I am going to write this down here.
Anyways, my suggestion is that if you break a cacti, there will be a 50% chance of it dropping a prickly pear. If you eat one raw, you will be dealt 4.5 HP (2.5 hearts) in damage, and given no food units. To be able to eat one, you will have to put it in either the 2x2 crafting grid in your inventory or a regular crafting bench. After doing this, you should get a prickly pear without spines. Eating this will give you 2 hunger units.
The reason I want this in the game is that the deserts in Minecraft are almost completely usless unless you want sand or cacti. If you have the unfortunate luck of being stuck in a desert with no food, then the prickly pear would be the best item, because it does not even need a crafting table or furnace.
Also, I think that farmer villagers in deserts should have a chance of selling and buying prickly pears.
Okay, that is about all I have to say about this, so goodbye!

Uhhhh... bye?
I'm gonna say what pretty much everyone says nowadays in other threads that involve adding more food. We have quite enough food, and we're just adding one grain of salt to a salt pile. Still, I do think the idea is good and at least offers a food that is unique to others. So... support for now... Not a bad first post.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
No actually it isn't. All you need to do is present your guide in a detailed way where people understand the idea 100%, as well as typing in a way that doesn't frustrate any readers (proper grammar and spelling, not skipping punctuation, etc).

The food item is unique, but the problem with it is that we already have a bundle of food items that already exist. And this particular item rather be one that wouldn't be mostly consumed since it would require you to have more than one to not damage yourself. But I do like the idea, and I also figure it should also have another use, perhaps one preferably for brewing.

Thanks, I honestly am a newb about forums, so this is likely sucky in relation to other posts.

Partial support.
