If you are not aware, if two mobs that would normally attack each other are on the same scoreboard team, they are passive towards one another. My suggestion is that if two mobs that do not conflict normally are on different teams, they would conflict.
Examples:
What works in vanilla: If a player and a zombie are both on team "blue", the zombie will behave passively towards the player.
My suggestion: If there are a group zombies on teams "red" and "blue", the two teams would fight.
This would be massively useful for map-makers, for staging raging battles of npcs, or making a mini game with mixed teams of npcs and players.
/scoreboard teams add <team name> to create a team
/scoreboard teams join <team name> @e[type=<mob type>] to add mobs and players to a team.
If you are on the same team as an aggressive mob, it will not attack you. Same goes for other mobs that would normally attack one another, like villagers and zombies, or iron golems attacking aggressive mobs.
This is a very good idea! It doesn't change normal Minecraft gameplay, it would be considerably simple to implement, and many things could be made from it.
Partial support. It could probably be abused in singeplayer (having an army of zombies to protect you), however I love adventure maps and I think it opens up more opportunities.
It cannot be abused by non-opped players because scoreboard teams can only be provided by said players. (who said having an army of zombies was a bad thing anyway, that's pretty awesome)
u would have to have to have 2 separate types of mobs fighting
and not 2 zombie teams?
You can use custom names for the mobs... say spawn some zombies with the custom name "red" and more with the custom name "blue" then add them like this /scoreboard teams join <team name> @e[name=<custom name>]

Bout how do u get the 2 mobs of mobs (pun intended) to fight each other?
They are not programmed to fight each other as of yet... but you can put them on separate teams as of now. That is why this thread was created to suggest that they change the programming to allow aggressive mobs on separate teams to fight anything on the opposing team.

Idea very similar in 2013, still like it just the same.

My Avatar is a Dalek, therefor your argument is... EXTERMINATED!!!
You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.
Make a zombie with an invis villager on the same team either teleported to his fellow zombie or actually stacked on top of his fellow zombie, when one dies have them drop an item which cause them both to die, zombies on the other team will move to attack the villager and give the effect of fighting the zombie, in order to do all this each zombie/villager couple will need a unique name. Overall this should give the effect of zombies battling each other for glory =)

My best suggestion:
Mobs actually being varied???
