The Dummy Mob would look like the player, or any mob you'd like (wooo, mod support!)
It would have the sitting, walking, etc. poses, any mob's poses and would be creative only.
the command could be /summon Dummy ~ ~ ~ {skinName:X}(where X is the name of the file)
Skins would go into the world's folder (Thanks,DarkStar634)
Get skins
You know PlanetMineCraft, Novaskin, and other skinning tools/sites, right?
so, if you download the png file of the skin and put it on the {skinName:X} datatag, the mob would spawn WITH that skin.
It would be great for adventure maps because with the /tellraw and this mob, someone could make an extended rpg map
Example: Someone downloads your map, and they see the dummy mob with your skin, talking to them. Wouldn't it be cool?
You could make they follow you (as an RPG party)
Also, with @e you could kill the dummy you didn't need
/kill could have the arguments kill and despawn. It'd be weird if: "HerpDerp has left your party" and the character just died there.
I want to see your ideas too! Just post in the comments. (You know, for no redundant/extra topics)
It would have the mob's models: Creeper, Zombie, Cow, etc.
It could be used in survival, as a dummy that only follows you could turn into your "partner" or "friend"
so, it would have PROs and CONs:
Pros & Cons
Pros:
Highly customizable
Can be used for many things
You can have a partner that follows you around on singleplayer
Cons:
Mojang would have to add bit by bit, not to spawn too many bugs
Examples:
With this mob, someone could make a map where a dummy appears, says something, then vanishes.
A player walks into a room with a creeper-skinned dummy mob.
Somewhere nearby there is a command block with /testfor @p[r=x].
It activates another command block with /tellraw @p {"text":"<Mr.Creeper> Hi, adventurer!"}
It would look like he's talking to the player.
With the new Barrier Block, one could make new things with the Dummy, such as a way guarded by someone.
With the new Barrier Block, one could make a quest proposed by a "guard-dummy-mob". When they completed it (the quest), a wall of "Barrier Blocks" would disappear, allowing for further exploration of the map.
one could make a world from another game in a "hall of illusions" using Dummies as the characters.
In addition, I have an idea, how about adding a time interval before it disappears?
like... /summon Dummy ~ ~ ~ {skinName:X} {interval:Y}
Y - Time interval in seconds, which allows to spawn the dummy for a certain time.
(If set 0, than infinite time)
I'll support this because I need something like this.

I think this would be cool, but only if you can get it with commands. Also, what do you mean "it would be talking to them"? How would you make it talk? Either way, I think it would be cool. Support.

This is actually not a bad idea, could be quite handy for map makers. Support!
Just one thing, I recommend that for the picture, instead of using a URL, which is unreliable, use an actual image file included in their world folder. It's just more reliable for the following reasons...
The server/website may be offline.
Somebody's internet may be offline when they want to play the map.
Would take longer to load the map as all skins would have to be downloaded first.

I'll let everyone know how that idea spawned:
I'm a gamer, so i have favorite characters. I wanted to make a map and have them as "friends". But multiplayer would be unreliable, as it would be hard to find someone with the skin i'm searching. A player named cookieXXXXX with a sonic skin? NO. Then i had the "dummy" idea. Put a skin on a dummy and play with your favorite character.

this sounds brilliant! for once a truly helpful idea, creating a truly immersive experience without needing knowledge of an NPC mod( the actual name escapes me currently) and it lets the map maker get into the map, like proof he put his heart and soul into it. i love this idea and give it 10000% support!

I have to thank minihilly for this one [link]
BTW, it wouldn't be compatible with creative inv. because with no datatags, it would be invisible(?).

Maybe have them kinda have movement or something to practice your endurance when fighting the real thing (hostile mobs)
