When you hover your cursor over a Tool, you know how it show the Name of the Tool and its Attack Damage? Well, something small, what if it told you how much Damage it deals on a Critical hit? Whad'ya think?

This sounds like a good idea. I would be excited about seeing this in an update. But, Critical Strikes are rare, I didn't even know they existed for a while. Like I said, this is an impressive idea. Good luck!

"A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him."
Well it can't exactly work. The damage for a critical hit is random, up to 150% of the normal attack damage (rounded down) plus 1 Heart. That means a Diamond Sword can critical for several different amounts of damage. I suppose it could be represented as a range of numbers, but I can't see that as being very useful.

The Wiki is actually incorrect, or outdated; when I tested it a diamond sword consistently did 12 damage, or 150% more than usual, per critical hit, as verified by the "damage dealt" statistic, and always killing cave spiders (12 HP) in one critical hit. I presume what the Wiki says is a holdover from before 1.6, which fixed the amount of damage dealt by enchantments and presumably also critical hits (prior to 1.6 enchantments had a randomized amount of damage; only arrows still have a variable amount of damage since it depends on velocity).
Similarly, a Sharpness V diamond sword consistently did 14.3 damage (total, you have to add one to the damage displayed, it appears to round to the nearest 1/10th) and 18.3 damage for critical hits, which actually suggests that enchantments do NOT affect critical hits, only using the base damage, since it still only added 4 damage (both just tested in 1.8; the Wiki has a lot of incorrect or outdated information).
In other words, it is entirely possible to add critical hit damage to the tooltip, although I don't think it is really necessary; a better idea would be to show the total damage dealt, including the player's unarmed damage, so a diamond sword would show "8 attack damage" instead of the confusing "+7 attack damage"; 7 added to what?). Even better, when a Strength potion is in effect the damage boost can be factored in and displayed.

Very interesting. Time to do some research and update the wiki. In that case I don't see why not.
Edit: There, did my research and updated the Damage page of the wiki the best I could. Hopefully it isn't reverted.

Sometimes I think people pay more immediate attention to joke, troll, vague, and wrong section threads here instead of the actual proper suggestions.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
