What about create a solid temperature system, a dinamic one that considers biome(base temperature), 'heat sources' like torches that closer you are to the torch warmer it gets, temperature changes depending on day/night and height too. If it get too hot or too cold the player loses health (like when hunger).
For example, any biome with base temperature between:
0.5 and 0.95 (River, Ocean, Forests, Jungle, etc)
fine at day or night at low height.
0.2 and 0.45 (Taiga, Extreme Hills, etc):
fine at day at low height.
too cold at night.
1.0+ (Desert, Mesa, Savanna, Plateau, etc):
fine at night.
too hot during day, except for high height (height depending on specified biome).
< 0.2 (Frozen River, Cold Taiga, Ice Plains):
too cold at day and night.
need heat source to be fine.
Create a bar on the screen showing the 'heat level' of the character. Another interesting idea is to create new equipment to change 'heat status' like (heat lv +1) and so on. I see the problems for new players and those who thinks its annoying, well it could be a completely separate mode or some option to be turned on/off so people can decide.
This might be too hard on new players, and it would definitely be obnoxious to me. I want the freedom to do what I want, unlimited by an arbitrary background system.
This concept has been suggested before, and is just an annoying nuisance that would very well ruin the game. I don't know why anybody would want to have their health based on the climate of where they are in a video game.
I think this would be too small for a mod. This idea would just annoy people. They won't be able to travel at night, in a snow biome while its having a snow storm. Also, consider the nether. How hot will THAT be.

Sometimes I think people pay more immediate attention to joke, troll, vague, and wrong section threads here instead of the actual proper suggestions.
